AMD and Mixamo Brings Face Plus that Revolutionize Character Art

FacePlus

AMD collaborate with Mixamo to launch Face Plus, an advanced real-time motion capture and 3D facial animation technology for the Unity game engine (v4.3). Face Plus leverages Unity’s blendshape technology and Mixamo’s rigging and animation algorithms where it is able to render expression captured with a webcam to 3D character in game in real time. This allows game developers to apply facial expressions to characters in games with vivid expressions that are captured from the webcam as oppose of traditional means of utilizing expensive equipment, sticky markers, and multiple 3D programs. The technology requires no proprietary hardware. All you need is a webcam, a system that runs Windows 7 or Windows 8 (where Mac OSX is coming soon) and a video cards taht supports Open CL 1.1 or higher. So, pretty much any current system should be able to run the plug-in, even those with integrated GPU. In the AMD Press ... Read More »

Windows 8 RTC Bug Affects Intel Platform Benchmark Results

The folks at HWBOT have discovered a flaw in Windows 8 real-time clock (RTC) implementation that affect how the operating system’s sense of time. According to the site, “Microsoft made changes to how it measures time to be compatible with embedded or low cost PCs that do not have a fixed RTC clock.” How does this affect the benchmark results? Well, the HWBOT team has tested system running at same 4.16GHz speed with two different configurations: 130 MHz BCLK x 32 CPU ratio and 122 MHz BCLK x 34x CPU ratio. The results is that the system with 122MHz BCLK yield 1 to 7% improvement in performance across various benchmarks that include Wprime32M, Prime95, Heaen, SuperPi, PiFast, Aquamark3, and 3DMark. As it appears, lowering the BCLK speed has essentially slowed down Windows sense of time. In one test where the team downclock the base clock by 6%, they observed Windows ... Read More »

ASUS Introduces the World’s First Intel Thunderbolt 2 Certified Motherboard

ASUS_Z87-Deluxe-quad

Due to the cost, Thunderbolt port only appears on high-end motherboards and laptops. As a result, we have not seen the market filled with devices equipped with such port. As you may recall, Thunderbolt is Intel’s solution to essentially unify every external I/O ports (display, graphics, storages, etc) to a single connector. With up to 10GB/s bi-directional bandwidth, it doubles the speed that USB 3.0 offers, and is backward compatible with USB 3.0 ports. Gigabyte GA-F2A85XN-WIFI (A85X Mini-ITX) Motherboard

GA-F2A85XN-WIFI

Gigabyte GA-F2A85XN-WIFI (A85X Mini-ITX) Motherboard   With only 17cm x 17 cm of area to work with, available real estate limits what manufacturers can put on a mini-ITX motherboard. However, for the Gigabyte GA-F2A85XN-WIFI, Gigabyte has done a very good job at offering what users need the most. The F2A85XN-WIFI does not come with a lot of the bells and whistles that we find on gaming boards or extreme overclocking boards. However, Gigabyte is able to pack in quite a lot of extra features, including DualBIOS, a WiFi card, Bluetooth, and plenty of USB and SATA ports on such a tiny board.   The F2A85XN-WIFI comes in the typical cardboard box. Inside we see the motherboard is placed on top of the box and underneath the board is where the accessories are located. There is not much includes with the board: we get the usual driver disk, a utility disk, ... Read More »

Bitfenix Launches Prodigy M

prodigy_m

One of our favorite mini-ITX cases has gotten even better. The good folks at Bitfenix has tweaked the Prodigy to allow the tiny case to support not just mini-ITX motherboard but also micro ATX board. The new Prodigy M retained the same overall footprint of 250 x 404 x 359 mm (WxHxD) as the Prodigy but now is able to fit the larger motherboard for those who may need more than one PCIE expansion slot. To accommodate the larger motherboard and gain the three additional expansion slots, the Prodigy has lost a couple of storage space but still able to hold up to one 5.25 drive, four 3.5 drives, and five 2.5” drives. The internal of the Prodigy M has been redesigned where the motherboard now sits vertically as oppose to horizontally that is found on the Prodigy. Bitfenix has added a panel on the side of the case to ... Read More »
