Toshiba Acquires OCZ SSD Business for 35 Million

OCZ_Vertex_150

Following the OCZ’s filing for bankruptcy, OCZ and Toshiba have reached agreement where Toshiba will buy OCZ assets for 35 million dollars. Under the agreement, Toshiba will “acquire OCZ’s client and enterprise solid state drive business,” where Toshiba will acquire “OCZ’s proprietary controllers, firmware and software, as well as the teams responsible for bringing these solutions to market, in addition to OCZ’s established brand and sales channels.” It is unknown what will happen to other OCZ products such as power supply.  Toshiba will provide OCZ with DIP (Debtor-in-Possession) financing during the transition period which allows OCZ to continue to operate as normally. The agreement has been approved by OCZ Board of Directors and the deal is expected to be complete approximately in 60 days. It is unknown what will happen to the OCZ brand and its product after the deal has completed. Source OCZ    No related posts. Read More »

Zotac reveals the GeForce GTX 780 Ti AMP! Edition

ZT-70503-10P_image2

While the GeForce GTX 780 Ti is a blazing fast card there of course always is room for more speed. This is something Zotac can deliver with their latest AMP!-card; the GeForce GTX 780 Ti AMP! Edition. The AMP-Edition cards, some that we have reviewed earlier (Zotac GTX Titan AMP Edition, Zotac GeForce GTX760 AMP! Edition) are overclocked from the start meaning more speed without risking loosing the warranty or getting an unstable card. The GeForce GTX 780 Ti AMP! Edition is overclocked from the stock 875/928 Mhz (base/boost) to 1006/1072 MHz for the GPU core and the memory is overclocked to 7200 MHz from the stock 7000 MHz. The recommended price for the card is 6399 SEK (Sweden) and £575. We currently have this beast in our lab and am busy reviewing it so stay tuned for some more info soon on how it performs. Until then you have to make ... Read More »

OCZ Files for Bankruptcy

OCZ Logo

The troubling company OCZ has filed bankruptcy on November 25, 2013. OCZ has been in financial trouble for some time but things were looking better with the company restructuring. Unfortunately, it appears that it is not enough to save the company. OCZ was one of the major players in the SSD market where it was the first company to introduce drive based on the SandForce controller with their Vertex 2.The acquisition of the Indilinx controller also helped the company to produce good performance drives such as Vector. Unfortunately for OCZ drives are sometimes affected by poor reliability which may caused the poor sales its drives that ultimately results in the loss of the revenue.  OCZ has received an offer from Toshiba Corporation to acquire the company’s assets. Besides Indilinx, OCZ also has PLX and PC Power & Cooling in its assets. The agreement is subject to various conditions that includes ... Read More »
