FOXCONN 8800GTS 320mb: OverClocking Edition!
Category:Videocards » Released: 2007-03-26 » Author: Robert TannerSummary: I’ll rather unfairly compare the FOXCONN 320mb 8800GTS Overclocked Edition I have today to the FOXCONN 512mb 7950GT Overclocked Edition graphics card. Will the almost standard 512mb RAM on the 7950GT give it a chance at XHD resolutions with Anti-Aliasing, where the onboard RAM size matters the most? What can you expect if you upgrade from a 7900-series card today? These are two of the questions I’ll answer in this review. A third important question is what difference one can expect from a 320mb 8800GTS card when using an older or slower processor. To answer this I’ll run a series of benchmarks with an E6300 at stock, and then overclock to 3.4ghz and rerun the same benchmarks again to find out what differences, if any, it will make. [Read More]

FOXCONN GeForce 8800 GTS
Category:Videocards » Released: 2006-11-08 » Author: Olin ColesSummary: The GeForce 8800 GTS is based on the same G80 GPU which NVIDIA uses to build the flagship GeForce 8800 GTX. While the GTS variant is the second best in this 8th generation of products, is not just a binned down version which didn’t meet the strict standards and performance of the GTX; The GTS is built as its own product model. While most enthusiasts will likely clear the shelves clean of any GeForce 8800 GTX offering simply because it is the newest and fastest product available, it wouldn’t be a wise decision to discount the more affordable GeForce 8800 GTS. It's a good solution if you don't want X1300 and want to go with something stronger. Performance wise it does its job, but I'm afraid more memory won't necessarily help in most applications. PowerColor X1300 HyperMemory™ 2
Category:Videocards » Released: 2006-02-24 » Author: Rafal ZakSummary: This product is intended for folks with less gaming on their minds. Don't get me wrong, it's great for SFF systems, multimedia platforms and some light gaming. You can still play any recent game with low details and get respectable frame rates, but that's about it. To my understanding, the 64-bit memory architecture was used to diversify different X1300 SKUs. If you feel you need more juice, get the 128-bit version instead. It will cost you no extra buck as both products have been positioned at the same price point. After all you can't expect revolutionary gaming experience for $79 green right? [Read More]

PowerColor X1900 XT -- 48 Horsemen
Category:Videocards » Released: 2006-02-03 » Author: Rafal ZakSummary: The increase in Arithmetic Logic Units to Texture Units (3:1 from 1:1) is a step in a right direction where more recent shaders tend to carry heavier proportion of arithmetic instructions (example, F.E.A.R). Next generation game titles will most likely go even further and use additional math operations on the data. With 48 pixel shader processors new fetch4 texture lookup and parallax occlusion mapping ATI seems to be set for the near future -- unless NVIDIA decides to walk ATI's path (it's very likely it will) or even surpass its ALU:Tex ratio. There is the other side of the coin however. Many will consider 16 Texture Units to be a limiting factor for R580. That's logically correct, but with newer applications it's the GPU with less ALUs that's going to be a bottleneck [Read More]

The Radeon X1900
Category:Videocards » Released: 2006-01-24 » Author: Björn EndreSummary: The high-end video card war continues with ATI’s latest GPU X1900 (R580). Sporting 3 times the pixel shader processors over the X1800XT and twice as many as the GeForce 7800GTX ATI has release a real power-horse. Even more important is the fact that the cards already are in stock in some online-stores which means it isn’t a paper-launch. [Read More]

Category:Videocards » Released: 2006-01-23 » Author: Björn EndreSummary: When the X1600XT was announced there were some concerns that it wasn’t priced correctly when you compared it to similar NVIDIA cards. Today we test the HIS - Radeon X1600 XT ICEQ ITURBO, a overclocked X1600XT with a nice cooler that makes a difference. [Read More]
PowerColor X1600 XT & X1300
Category:Videocards » Released: 2006-01-08 » Author: Rafal ZakSummary: While I can easily say both X1600 XT and X1300 from PowerColor are good products, I'm a bit famished. The performance of X1600 XT could be better yet I understand this might come in time with the new drivers. This X1600 as well as X1300 have it all; Avivo/HDTV along with H.264 decoding and transcoding, new Ultra-Threaded Shader Engine, Ring Bus memory controller (XT only) and most importantly Shader Model 3.0 support. RADEON X1600 doesn't stay way behind the pack. As far as I'm concerned it's performing properly for $200 bucks, but lacks that true 256-bit bus. The next gem, PowerColor X1300 is aimed at consumers with less money on hand or simply those who need advanced DirectX 9 support at a reasonable price / performance ratio. [Read More]
PowerColor X800 GTO 16
Category:Videocards » Released: 2005-12-22 » Author: Rafal ZakSummary: To make the long story short, it would't be wise of me not to recommend this card. Everyone who is seeking a cheap upgrade yet wants decent performance should give PowerColor X800 GTO16 a considerate and detailed look. Whether you're a gamer, enthusiast or graphics editor you should not look beyond what Tul offers with this rebranded XL video card. This board is packed with features (including dual DVI links) and great performance. At $179 USD it's simply a steal. The only gripe I have is lack of VIVO capability -- only TV out. [Read More]

PowerColor X800 GT
Category:Videocards » Released: 2005-08-08 » Author: Rafal ZakSummary: I have drawn plenty of facts from testing ATI's latest VPU, RADEON X800 GT. PowerColor X800 GT is a beast in its own class. Thanks to very high core and memory clocks the performance of an 8 pipeline card is as good as it will ever get. We show you how to bump a 475 MHz core beyond X850 XT PE's with just few minutes resulting in a massive 551 MHz overclock. The beauty of RADEON X800 GT is its R480 core. Though cut down to 8 pixel pipelines, you get great performance at a reasonable price. You won't get a better deal for $159 USD (256 MB version), but if you think that's too much consider a 128 MB model for $139 USD. [Read More]
