Welcome to Bjorn3D's 2004 edition of our annual pumpkin carving contest. We love Halloween at Bjorn3D, so each year we celebrate it with a contest in which you demonstrate your carving prowess and we reward you with cool prizes. This year we are getting back to basics. In previous years we asked for the integration of computers and pumpkins. Not this year. It's time for a good, old-fashioned carving contest. All you need this year is a sharp knife, a willing gourd, and a good imagination.
We will award prizes to the top 3 entries, as judged by the staff of Bjorn3D.
This is a pumpkin carving/decorating contest. Submit a photo or photos of your best effort at creating a pumpkin matching our theme. This contest is limited to members of the Bjorn3D Forums with at least 25 posts. THE THEME: The theme is computer/games/Bjorn3D. For example, a Doom 3 pumpkin would fit the theme and be useful for your own Halloween festivities. Bjorn3D's mascot is a polar bear. The contest logo incorporates a bear paw carved into a pumpkin. Sorry that we took the easy one, but it does illustrate how to work the Bjorn3D theme into your entry. A gourd is mandatory, although it doesn't have to be a pumpkin. Carving isn't a necessity; you may decorate your gourd in any manner you choose. You do not need to create a pumpkin PC or incorporate any technology at all in your entry. Entries will be judged on concept and execution (skill of carving or painting). Narrative text and mod items (e.g. adding arms and legs to your pumpkin) are acceptable, but do not count towards the judging. You may only enter the contest once. You can practice on your own as many times as you like, but the entry you provide will be the only one allowed and judged in the contest. The contest starts Monday, October 11 and ends on Friday, October 29 at 8 PM Eastern Standard Time. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER THIS TIME. The winners will be notified by private message on Halloween, October 31st. Bjorn3D retains the right to publicize the contest and entries in any manner it sees fit.
The paper patterns available with Halloween themed pictures look great, but aren't very original. We highly recommend that you come up with your own design. A perfectly carved, but store bought, pattern probably won't win versus a nicely carved, original concept. Pumpkins spoil quickly once carved. Take your pictures soon after it's completed. Practice your flash photography. Your pumpkin may look great in the dark, but using too much flash is going to ruin the appearance. Pumpkins are traditionally lighted with a candle. However, you may use any light source to achieve your desired effect. Black lights, red bulbs, or cathode lighting are all good options. HAVE FUN WITH IT!!!!!!!!
