I'm in the market for a new monitor soon as my current Gateway 19" CRT will be reaching its prime eventually and the fact I accidently broke a screw in on a side of the adapter which keeps coming loose some of the time. However my knowledge of LCDs should I consider it is not much, so what should I be looking out for when looking around for one besides the brand alone? Only thing is I will not be going widescreen anytime soon with some of the games I play that won't support it however nice it may be.

Get a LCD with 8ms response time or lower. Higher brightness and contrast ratio is better too. Again its always best to view a LCD with your own eyes as its not good to judge specs on paper.

LCD is low in price so a 19" should be enough.

I would reccomend actually getting a look at it before you buy it, if this is going to be the monitor that you use every day you want to know that it is good before you buy it.

If I was getting one for my main sys (like werty said) I would make sure that it had a low response time and I would look into getting a widescreen modle.

Fast wide screens are getting cheaper by the day, at least here in the US they are. You can pick-up a 20" Samsung 6ms WS for under $300 at a walk-in store and online as well.

my dad got a 21" lcd at bestbuy for like $250-300, cant remember the name but if it werent as dirty it would look great
he got the one on display since they were all out so he got a discount:lol:
im still using 2 16" crt's(dualview 1024x1280 on both) they get the job done,
one is a KDS X-Flat
and one is an emachines which i got for free :P
they work and are as clear and if not clearer than half the lcd's ive seen
i dont like lcd's though, i dont like seing the pixels

How close do you actually put your face to your monitor to actually see the pixels? Pixels are so small that you won't actually see them unless you stick your face as close as you can and look in detail.

I don't loke seeing them either. CRT looks way way better then any LCD I have ever seen.

I don't know what I will get when this monitor packs it in.
I hope that never heppens, but it was about $1600 and the same size in LCD now would run me about $400 Tops, more then likely it would be less then $400. I will prolly get an LCD for my main computer then.

You guys really have to have good eyes if you can see the pixels on LCD :). I'm sitting 1-1/2 meter from my 21" ViewSonic and cant pick any pixels out.

I'm actually getting a huge 20" CRT at work (it's just standing in a room since everyone switched to LCD so i thought I get it as second monitor) and it will be interesting to compare again since it's been a long while since I had one.

I'm very happy with my ViewSoniuc 21" although I'm getting a 24" DELL tomorrow. I definitely suggest looking at the monitor you are thinking about before buying but other than that i can recommend ViewSonic since in my experience they have excellent image quality.

Swed I do have very good vision but I have sold TV's and Monitors for a couple of years and I wish I did not have the descriminitory eye that I do have.

LCD looks Flat to me, quite dementionless, (or 2d) it always has.
Thats why when you go see a demonstration of an LCD they always show computer animation as you probably already know they are renderd with more rounded tiles. It makes it look better smoother and more 3 demential.

But hey I sit maby 1/2 meter from my screen, even with the very low radition this monitor gives I should consider a LCD?

Um no not yet. :)

Swead enjoy your "new" CRT; tell us what you think of it.
