alright, i had the wonderful idea of modding my bios
yes my mobo bios
since modding my video bios, ive decided to move to higher grounds,
i have found a few bios editors, but they are only for fat file systems, and since i have XP on ntfs, i cant change it
so wuht do you guys think?
i know its uber super uber dangerous, but im wiling to take the risk
giga-byte doesnt have a lock for the pci/agp bus freq. lock, and im just wondering if i can lock it myself:???:its the only problem i have when overclocking

I don't know why the file system would matter when you're modding a BIOS file but you could always load it onto a floppy and work on it from there Floppies use FAT.
BTW, you're a braver man than I am.

well when i try to use those, it says that the file format is unsuitable for running dos, and ive tried running it from cmd, same thing
i should try the floppy but atm im trying to see how long i can go without restarting windows.....tomorrow it will be 5 days wewt!:-D
(i usually restart everyday)

How do you mean, "it helps with the ram".

He might mean by that it frees up used RAM willingly.

no it doesnt free it up willingly, its a cache manager for windows and right now without it i would have 160mb less than with it
check into it its really nice

I have 2 gig of ram. Basically I don't care how much ram is being sucked up by apps/xp and then some. I've never seen it go to it's limits, hell, i've never seen it go over half.

Diddo as having 2GBs of memory is bliss.

An USB stick or floppy should work. If you konw someone with the same mobo and you screw yours up, you can use that computer to program a working BIOS. (Start computer with good flash chip, pull it out, insert yours, program it, turn off, replace good flash, you're done!)
Depending on the mobo model you have, you could try to load a new BIOS version using AwardFlash or other such a small proggy, but just be sure you backed up your old BIOS first!!! Now, it depends on what you want to mod at your BIOS, I'm not an expert in that, but be very very careful, don't screw things up! Boot from a floppy or USB stick, and run the small program, load the new version, and pray to gods that the electrical power doesn't fall in the same moment the EEPROM is erased :))
If you have a newer mobo, you will find a functional BIOS version on the Cd which comes with the mainboard, just in case something goes wrong.
I hope you are lucky with whatever it is you want to do.

Oh, yeah, some mobos got a safety feature. You need to put the BIOS on a floppy or USB stick, and press some keys on your keyboard while booting, the mobo manual should tell what to do.
