I have a PV-T71G-UCF7. I would like to buy a second card to run SLI. How close do the cards have to be? Same exact model, same brand, same core/clock speeds, same general chipset (any 7900GT), etc? And what if I decide to overclock, will that make a difference? Will I have to over/under clock to make the speeds exactly the same? Thanks.

For mixing and matching cards for SLi both cards need to be the same like "7900GT". It doesn't matter the make or clock speeds as long as both cards are "7900GT" and you also need to use v90 drivers.

If you current card is factory overclocked and the 2nd card you get is not I believe both cards will run at the card with the slower clock speed. With overclock both cards overclock at the same time.

Here's the official nVidia SLI FAQ, it pretty much covers everything: http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_faq.html#c3 (http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_faq.html#c3) Basically if you OC the cards, once in SLI the fastest clocked card will underclock the difference to match the slower card of the pair.

Oh, and welcome to the Bjorn3d forums! :)

Thanks for the information.

It's strange, I registered 3 years ago, but for some reason my post count is reset, maybe related to changing my signature? Oh well, doesn't matter, I only post a dozen times or so.

 I hadn't noticed your Join by date! Sorry ;)

Bjorn3d recently cleaned out and reorganized the forums (Some old threads were also removed), so I would guess that is likely why. Some members had over 1k in post count lost from it.

I think that it's related to the recent "reorganization of the site" which included also "old posts" deletion...

Anyway, I think what werty316 and Kougar said, covers it all!!!

So GOOD LUCK with your 2nd 7900GT.

I'm still waiting for my TWO 7900GTs to arrive, so I'll be able to run them in SLI...In the meantime I'm using my single 7800GTX...

Keep in mind the most important like stated before is you use a card with the same chipet...Also to avoide having to use that coolbits program make sure they have the same amount of memory on the cards. I founds that the manufacture is not important..you can mix the video cards..i.e. EVGA and XFX 7900gt 256mb ram will work together.......options..options....8-)
