They work peretty good, but are a pain in the butt to install. Not sure of the performance you'll get out of one with some of the newer dual cores though. Not a bad alturnitive to loud air cooling.
Here's a review done on the unit by one of the most professional and knowledgeable water cooling experts out there today.

how; much woujld it cool down a p4 2.9ghz cpu? he was thinking of ocing it to 3.4/3.6ghz, and it would be kept like that. what u think the temps would be? right now the 2.9 runs at 44 degrees, not doing anything, 55~ at load

I don't have anything to really relate the performance of a Intel to as I haven't ever tried cooling them, my last Intel chip was a P III. So I have no idea how the temps of those chips scale. Id try and Google the cooler and see if anyone has ever used it on a Intel based system.

I reccomend that he buy the corsair Nautilus 500 from Frozencpu.com, as that is what I did, and I am not a fan of Canadacomputers

Considering his friend's budget is around $120 the Corsair Nautilus500 is out of the question plus Frozencpu is not in Canada.

Try NCIX.com or BigFootComputers for WC'ing kits in Canada:

2.9ghz Pentium? Only Intel chips I know of that are at stock 2.9ghz would be a Celeron D chip, or the current Core 2 Extreme.

He shouldn't expect great cooling power using a hot Intel Prescott based processor with just a single 120mm sized radiator, but it should suffice. Googling up what other people are getting with their Prescotts should give a good idea on the numbers...

Yeah but shipping won't be cheap and who knows if there is a chance you'll have to pay for duty unless FrozenCPU takes care of the broker charges.

He can also get the Corsair Nautilus 500 from NCIX ;)

After the exchange rate its about $10 cheaper but shipping would cost more than NCIX. Shipping at FrozenCPU could cost around $25-35USD($28-39CAD) and NCIX is only be $16-20CAD.

If you can install a heatsink you can install the Corsair Nautilus500; its not hard at all and it includes instructions.

I wouldn't buy a ready-made watercooling system for $120, because than it'll probably SUCK!!!

I think that if your friend want to have a Water-Cooling system for no more than $120 (...or even less), he can do it easily by building his own home-made watercooling system. He doesn't have to be "that" expert, but should only read a little bit.

Anyway, that's what I did on my previous system...The only thing I actually bought from a computer store, was the Waterblock (was a Zalman ZM-WB2 back then...), for around ~$35.

The rest of the parts were as follows:

I've used Eheim 1048 Water-Pump which I bought in a Fish Shop. If you didn't know, Eheim pumps are commonly used for Marine-Aquariums, so I bought it then, for a pretty cheap price (around $35).

I bought some silicon transparent pipes of 1/2" internal diameter (~$15).

I've used an old small radiator, that was used as a heat-core of an air-conditioning system of an old "Daewoo" car (yeah...that's for real ) and that guy, who fixes these radiators gave it to me for FREE.

I also made a 2-liters home-made reservoir from a Plastic Jar.

I bought TWO panflow 120mm fans for ~$25).

And...that's it. Got 40x30x20cm Plastic Communication Box from a firend and put everything inside.

So...the whole DIY watercooling cost me then, no more than $110, back then.

It cooled down my Barton 2500@3200 to 28C Idle and 42C Load and I've used it for more than 2 years.

But, since I moved to my new X2 3800+ system, I gave up on watercooling and sold this cute watercooling kit

I think I still have some pictures somewhere  If I'll find any, I'll surely post them here.

Anyway, hope this helps...

GOOD LUCK :paw:

I also build my own....;) but they were talking easy. Putting your own together as a nood does take a lot of reading and research, then you have to run around and dig up the parts. Not always the easiest thing to do depending on where you live these days, you could end up spending more on gas that the cooling parts.
Most of you all have seen my custom built external rig I built some years ago, at that time I used heater cores out of a 77 Pontiac. It was a pretty cool and fun project to build and I'm still using some of the parts today. I think the complete build of the thing took like 2-3 months to complete. Not fast or easy by any means...........;)

Yeah, but I'm still sure it performed much better than a $120 ready-made watercooling system... Of course, one should decide what he prefers...that's just my personal preferation...and I only suggested building his own watercooling system...and beside that, I personally think it's much more fun building your own watercooling system.

True, it's a ton more fun building your own...........;) And if done correctly, it'll perform 100% better. IMHO, you just can't beat the fun factor of building something yourself. But for the average user, a kit is normally the best and easiest option. I'm anything but normal and I think you, zachig, are also in the same boat...........:) I only mean that in the best and most friendly way..........;)

What are you talking about??? Maybe I didn't get you right, but Swiftech watercooling systems costs much more than $55!!! And the link you gave is for the COOLER MASTER AQUAGATE Mini R120 Liquid Cooling System for $55, which is quite a reasonable price!
