Clicking ususally comes from a HD going south but to be sure disconnect your HDs, any ROM drives, and also your case fans and then turn your system on. If you don't hear a noise, start to plug the fans back and see if you hear the sound.

It could be a fan needing some cleaning or oil.

A fan bearing would be my first guess. Just stop them one at a time till you find the guilty party. Just stick your finger in them one at a time, that should work...............;)

With your system turned on, enter into the BIOS or boot from a floppy; just don't boot to Windows.

One at a time, unplug each device and see if the noise stops.

What kind of clicking?

What if you unplug everything except RAM, CPU, mobo, PSU?

If you stop your CPU fan, does it keep clicking?

just stick ur finger in the fans to stop them, does the clicking continue?

That's how I stop fans too, don't do this for too long or you'll fry your fan ;-)

If the mobo is doing this, try disabling features of the Cool'n'Quiet kind.

If the PSU is doing this -> RMA or get a new one unless it's the fan, a drip of sharpening / mechanical / sewing machine oil(all the same really fluid thing) is needed.

Never use WD40 or anything like it. I use an all-in-one oil.

Yup, don't use WD40. It works for a while, but after some time, it just gets worse than before...

I've once heard a story from someone that had to repair a Behringer mixing table after the studio engineer put it in a WD40 "bath", it killed lots of components by infiltrating into them.

Thanx guys. I found out it was one of my 120mm fans. Apperantly it had moved itself in such a way that it was barely touch part of the case. Idk how or why but it did. My HDs are new, and all my fans are pretty much new so i didnt think anybody was going south but i did unlug everything to make sure. Also, i thought it was horribly bad to unplug your devices while the computer was turned on (HDs, opticals ect).

FTR i have
Thermaltake Copper Tower112 w/ 2 Vantec Tornados
XTX usual Saphire fan
2 120mm Antec TRI LED fans. If anybody was wondering.

Yup, not a good idea -- except if the data cables are unplugged. (Which you can remove while the computer is on with SATA but not IDE)

I don't recommend unplugging a HD while it is powered on. Better to unplug to when a computer is off.

SATA is fine since it supports hot-swapping but not with PATA drives.

I have no problems with unplugging, but I do with plugging something while it's on... I already toasted a floppy drive because of the spark it created because I plugged it in too slowly.

Id just rather turn my computer off. Its alot safer for anything that way. Only thing i unplug while its on is my fans cause that dosent really matter.

I use the kind of oil that goes into my fathers' sewing machine. Should be the finest thing you can get.

You have to look if the oil is OK for electrical things tho. If it doesn't tell anything, it's probably OK anyways. Just don't try this on your most expensive fan the first time. Anyways, PP solved his problem.
