Life is good(R) Notifying All Affected Customers that Personal Information May Have been Accessed on Lifeisgood.com Website; Company Taking Additional Steps to Protect Customer Information
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 2006--Life is good, a Boston-based company that spreads good vibes through its colorful collection of apparel and accessories, has notified all affected customers that a database containing their confidential credit card information was recently breached by intruders.
Intruders illegally accessed the lifeisgood.com database, which included address and credit card numbers for about 9,250 Life is good customers. Although it is unclear if any data was copied, the illegally accessed information included name, address and credit card numbers. The database did not include date of birth, social security or driver's license numbers.
Upon discovery of the breach, the company immediately disabled this unauthorized access and implemented additional security measures to prevent future violations. The breach was reported to federal law enforcement authorities who are investigating the incident.
"We value the trust our customers place in us," said Bert Jacobs, founder and chief executive optimist at Life is good. "We have taken immediate steps to increase the security of our site and are cooperating with the authorities in their investigation into this issue."
Each of the customers involved has been provided with full information, including answers to frequently-asked questions, and web links to a free credit report for all affected. The three major credit reporting agencies -- Equifax, Experion and TransUnion -- have also been notified.
Since the breach, Life is good has evaluated lifeisgood.com to determine where greater security measures may be needed and has taken action on all recommendations to better secure the site.
"We have put additional security measures in place and have taken steps to ensure that this type of a breach does not happen again," continued Jacobs. "With the increased measures in place, we are confident in the security of our site."
