i think my northbridge/southbridge/chipset is running at 118 celsius, here is a pick from speedfan

Im thinking either thats a wrong reading or your comp is gonna burst into flames...

What mobo and cooler do you have on the chipset?

i have a msi rs480, its from an hp, and there is not cooler on the chipset

Actually, that is warm (46C) but not incredibly hot. I could recommend any number of chipset coolers, but I think a simple socket 7 heatsink could be bonded to the chip with a thermal paste solution. You could even use a RAM heatsink.

its warmer than 46 degrees, where did u get the 46 from?

with the new case, and 2 intake fans, i think it will be alot lower, right now i only have 1 exhaust fan

Actually that reads as 118 celsius hence the "C". I think Das missed that and converted fahrenheit to celsius; 32F converts to 0C.

I wouldn't believe those temps as your board would have melted at 188C.
The 57C and 62C temps are also too hot but again don't believe them as you wouldn't be able to boot if you chipset was at 118C.

118, i felt the chipset once, and it was really warm, i would say around 40 i guess, if it was 118 it would def melted my skin, which didnt happen. btw why is speedfan so gay?

Yep, I ignored that you stated celsius, and somehow thought it was fahrenheit. 118F=46C. At any rate, don't trust the software. 118C is beyond the capacity for your board, and would have died a long time ago. Still, you could do any of the things I mentioned to help cool it.

the 57 is my gpu, and 61 gpu memory, guys remember, i have no intake fan

GPU memory has a sensor??? I never knew any card had that.

im thinkin -5/-10 degrees with the 2 92mm fans sucking from the front?

werty316
09-21-2006, 05:47 AM
It all depend on how much CFM the 92mm fans push you'll install and the room temperature but it should help.

Are you talking about your currrent case or the Atlas?

darkorb
09-21-2006, 05:48 AM
what about 2 2000rpm fans? they will do beautifully

werty316
09-21-2006, 05:52 AM
Sure it all depends on how loud you want your computer to sound; higher rpm means louder fan which means a louder computer.

If your like me louder is better. My Vantecs push ALOT of air and so i dont worry about heat at all. As for your GPU if it was at 57C then its fine. Actualy thats really quite cool. If i remember correctly last checked a 6600GT (standard refernce) could and would be expected to hold up against 120C heat. Thats alot considering at the time flashed and OCed my 6800GT was reaching temps of 88 and 90C. Thats even with the massive Leadtek cooler. (Im suspecting the higher core voltage from the 6800ultra flash) As for your chipset thats way over and your machine wouldnt even be running at that temp. I would recomend around a 2500 and 2800rpm fan. Pretty quiet still yet pushes some air. If it was a 120mm fan then 2000 would be fine and 2800 would be loud but its not. I believe my 92mm Vantecs are spinning about 4000rpm right now. I havent checked in a while.

with my stock gpu cooler, it was hitting 65 idle, and like even 85/90 under load just before i changed my heatsink, now its idling 58 ish, and loading at 70's

PP Mguire
09-21-2006, 10:46 PM
For the stock thats normal. GPUs arent like CPUs and take alot more heat before they start giving junk on the screen or get unstable.

darkorb
09-21-2006, 10:50 PM
still, at 90 degrees, i bought a new heatsink.

u guys heard of the trouble i had right?
ill just say it quikcly, basically i bought the nv silcer, and the power to the fan on the gpu didnt match the power ocnnectors on the heatsink, so i returned it, and i tried putting the card in with the original heatink, but with the gpu chip itself, i cleaned, so it hit 120 degrees, so i just pulled the power on the comp to get it off asap, then went out, bought the heatsink and installed it

Hey Dark, post ur hardware in your sig so we know what stuff ur using

Not sure what you mean four posts (http://www.bjorn3d.com/forum/showpost.php?p=51803&postcount=22) up but when installing a HSF make sure you clean the GPU and heatsink with rubbing alcohol and ensure that there is full contact between the GPU and heatsink.

darkorb
09-22-2006, 12:45 AM
ya i used that isopropyl alcohol, and there was a good contact, buti think i put too much gel, DARN WHAT DO U CALL IT, u no, that gluey stuff on the gpu, i put like 4 rice drops

PP Mguire
09-22-2006, 12:55 AM
Thermal paste, your supposed to put about the amount of a grain of rice, apply the heatsink, 1/4 turn it, then mount it with holding screws. Also, 68c load for a 6800GT is quite normal. Idk why your stock HSF was giving you so much trouble though.

markkleb
09-22-2006, 12:59 AM
Its hard for me 2 dark, I KNOW you are supposed to put 1 grain of rice size but I still add more...

But thats not ur prob, I would be willing to bet its the air flow. When you get the new case thats gonna get a LOT better.

The Antec case is Sweet! It looks plain on the outside but the design is VERY GOOD..
Especially the HDD cage, there is slots for 4 HDDs and they are spaced apart for Excellent air flow. Also there is a space for 2 92mm fans to cool them.

I spread enough thermal paste on a CPU/GPU core to a very paper thin layer so it is fully covered and not just the middle of the CPU's IHS where the core is located so it has full contact.

darkorb
09-22-2006, 02:13 AM
ya i used my student card to spread it around

PP Mguire

Yaaaaaaw! Hide!

Actually, I already bought a 3rd GPU cooler with a 3-pin connector like this, while my video card only had 2 pins. Fortunately, they provided a 3-pin to Molex adapter.

About thermal paste, I put just a bit when I start, spread, and then, I put a little where I see the GPU surface and spread it with a plastic ID card, that goes like this until it's all nice and flat. I guess it's not always a good technique since my Athlon XP 2000 CPU runs hotter with AS5 than the stock CoolerMaster thermal paste coming with my cooler.(Spent $12 for nothing! )

Wow PP, that heatsink/fan combo is HUGE! It must have put out a few loud rpm's...
