Interesting development, and I agree a pretty bold statement from MSI. I have to wonder if they have already acquired some of these cards Woot sold, it would be extremely easy to trace them and know for sure. :???:

NVIDIA 7900GS cards with a green PCB may be plundered goods

Micro-Star International, better known as MSI, has recently posted an alert on its website (http://www.msicomputer.com/msiforms2/stolen.asp) calling attention to a truckload of stolen NVIDIA 7900GS cards.

The stolen GeForce 7900GS cards appear to closely resemble the NVIDIA reference board, with a green PCB, white DVI outputs, and a heatsink covering only the GPU core itself. In contrast, the retail 7900GS has a red PCB, yellow DVI outputs, and a larger heatsink that covers the onboard RAM chips and bears the MSI logo.

In a rather bold accusation, MSI is specifically mentioning the hot-deals website Woot.com, known for its one-day-only web deals. MSI 7900GS cards were sold by Woot.com on August 23, 2006 (http://www.woot.com/Blog/BlogEntry.aspx?BlogEntryId=1420), with the description "This isn’t the full retail package that will hit stores sometime in the near future, nor is it just one piece of an entire PC system; it’s a raw hunk of standalone OEM hardware in a plain white wrapper..."

MSI is requesting that buyers who purchased these cards contact them with information regarding where they were purchased, and also notes that stolen cards do not carry a warranty.

That is horrible!! I really like MSI and to think some one would steal their cards.. That's just wrong :(

Sad to say but it happens all the time, but it normally doesn't make the news. Even sadder thing is that there is no shortage of people willing to buy stolen property if the price is right. .............:(

So where can I buy one? ;)

Well, it looks as if those that bought these $139+$5 shipping 7900GS cards from Woot.com were the ones getting swindled, apparently.

Regardless of where they got them, it looks like the entire batch was out of a RMA'd supply of cards or something. More than a few people bought two 7900GS cards for SLI, and found one was usually faulty while the other would apparently just die within a day or three, just to have a 3rd faulty replacement arrive.

I also am a MSI user. Hopefully, the person who stole the cards will be caught.

oh, and BTW :

You would think that since "someone" sold them to woot.com they could track down the origin. This can't be a good thing for Woot to be connected to.

Well, anyone with a decent set of brains should be asking himself some questions when you can buy a product on an obscure website for half the price of all the other shops. Or did you really believe they are selling their stuff at a price at which they loose money instead of make money.

I am still stumped that MSI hasn't "acquired" some of these cards, just one of them should have a half dozen reference numbers on it and inside it's BIOS to track down and verify it was one of theres. They would then have all the proof they need and solidify their case.

I suppose Woot was able to sell $140 cards because they bought the lowest quality they could, nVidia's factory rejects :-P
