just wondering, but is there a way to make a program that optimizes teh way windows schedules and executes proccesses based upon your core architecture and such?
i know it would take a LOT of cpu knowledge, but if they made a program that did it i would probably buy it (given it had significant results)

just a thought:roll:

Architecture optimized? Switch to Linux.

You need to compile your progs in consequence.

But, there are AMD CPU drivers at amd.com that could help probably.

As far as I know no app like that exists. It would have to be specific instructions like SSE3.

You can't double click and wait a few secs? ;)

well like i was thinking that if you do it it could give you a lil perf. boost
wouldnt do much i presume, but hey, every little bit counts:roll:

Isn't the only thing those do is add cool 'n quiet support?

AMD, here you go: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

They removed the Cool'n'Quiet name on the drivers, but I suppose that's what they do. There's an additional driver for dual cores, "Dual-Core Optimizer"

Also remember you can't use "Cool 'N Quiet" when OC"ing ;)

great, now if only i could unlock the multi...do you think that AMd will let me borrow one of their top secret peices of equipment? :P

CPUs are supposed to be locked forever, I read that they actually fry the internal bridges enabling multipliers they don't want you to use.

I think there is some online readymade software is available on the net

Here's some old fashioned CPU optimizers if you happen to be using a 10 year old system...

Well, maybe not 10 years old...

Too bad, my Voodoo2s are in a P3, not one of my two K6-2s in separate pieces.

Great link, btw! I still have some PIIs and K6s.

XP pro is running fine on my toshiba tecra 8000....a lil boost couldnt hurt
266 mhz folding...lol

How can you get a 266MHz to run XP fine? Is there something special about it? A 400MHz can't even run Win2k at a normal speed.

Sure he isn't talking about a K6 ?

nope its a p-II 266mhz
256mb 133mhz RAM
6gb HDD (ata 66 i think)
NeoMagic MagicGraph256AV
2MB video RAM
the battery never worked, broke the keyboard, mom broke the screen when she smashed it on the floor a few times(she got mad at me:roll:) and i cut a hole above the heatsink for a lil better cooling..
run it 24-7 and it does just fine

XP actully stands for Xtra Power, its as stable as 2k, but faster and more compatible. it was built straight off 2k too, but mostly with stuff just added on.

but i also had some help from pc accelerator(or booster) and http://www.tweakxp.com (http://www.tweakxp.com/)
i also replaced the shell from explorer.exe to blackbox, i posted an example of it somewhere around here

i also use a lot of open source programs cuz thier usually smaller and run cleaner than the more common progz

check out foobar 2000
WMP classic(with quicktime and real plugins)
foxit reader
firetune(to make firefox run better)
7-Zip
gaim(to handle all IM clients at once, cleaner)

theres no OC'ing option in the BIOS but im trying to find an updated version that might support it, or if theres a keystroke to show advanced options

:mrgreen:i got my aunts 600mhz P-III gateway with a nvidia mx200(replaced with an ATI northbridge heatsink) to run for 3 weeks doing stresses and memory tests and it did fairly well...got hellsa hot though:???:

i have a 60mhz Hewlet Packard legend im trying to get xp on...64mb of ram....only i have to boot from floppy XP it will be my biggest challenge yet!

for your 60MHz, copy the XP setup to the HDD (or just put the CD) and boot the setup with a DOS floppy. (just run drive:\i386\winnt)

well m$ has on thier site a util. that copies files to floppies(5) and then you can boot from them to load windows and then run from the cd but the only problem is that i cant find enough working floppies lmao:lol:
