There should be a cable from CDRW,CD rom, or DVD to your mobo or if you use a sound card to it. This explanes what it does,

The blue socket is for channel 3 and 4 (back speakers) but some mobos it can be changed to other stuff.

next to the jumpers on the back of the HP lightscribe is a slot for the plug, EVERY CD/DVD I have ever seen has one.

I think he means the onboard audio on the motherboard and not ROM audio that enables him to listen to music CDs on his computer.
Or do you mean the case speaker?
Did you plug the speaker plugs into the output of the onboard audio jacks?

Nope the front "audio ports" are a microphone and headphone jack and you don't need to worry about them if you aren't gonna use them.

Make sure you have the speaker plugs inserted into the right audio jacks on your motherboard's I/O back plate behind your computer. Maybe you put the plugs into an input jack like a microphone jack. This might sound dumb but did you turn your speakers on?

Maybe try taking the board out of the case and see if that helps.

Doesn't matter if you select digital audio extraction(way better, just a little CPU use) in the CD-ROM properties window in the device manager.
