IDF HomePlug AV boosted to 200 Mbps

IF YOU WANT to distribute HD content between devices, and you have already placed all of your infrastructure in the house or a flat, and Wi-Fi isn't offering enough bandwidth - you were pretty much stuck between the rock and a hard place.
The solution to the problem seems much easier than previously thought. HomePlugAlliance consists of dozens of members from the networking industry, and this industry consortium just brought out new spec. PowerLineEthernet (PLE) is offering fantastic speed of 200 Mbit/s, or equal to full-duplex 100Mbit Fast Ethernet. This is more than enough for streaming any of the current HD formats.

There already was ethernet thru power line, but not that fast. The problem is that the adapter shouldn't be plugged in a power filter, and sensitive devices that are not thru an adapter will receive all of this, and maybe do strange things. Also, I wonder if the signal is going at your neighbors since the lines are shared with a few persons. Not really secure IMO.

The signal is encrypted. How well I haven't looked into, but I am sure it is like wifi, it has a limited useful range and the signal would be extremely unlikely to survive being routed through the pole/yard transformer before entering another house.

The transformer will competely remove the signal noise, but there's generally not one transformer per house, it would also look very ugly.

OK, it's encrypted, wonder if it's the same encryption for everyone tho.

I think that's why the title of the news reported is "IDF HomePlug AV boosted to 200 Mbps"..........

Any network is only as secure as the user makes it, WiFi, PowerLine or whatever..........8-)

Well, wired ethernet is better IMO! (That's why we got a wireless router with WLAN disabled and I ran wires thru the house ;) ) In fact, the reason really was that we already had ehternet wire, and wireless cards cost around $40 when we wired the place.

Here where I live, every home has it's own transformer on it's own pole, so it would be extremely secure.

If Sbrehm doesn't have the guns, I'm sure XJNine can loan him whatever he's missing to complete that impression...

I've got my own fair share.....;)

But I don't have near as many as most folks out here where I live. We have several different militia groups out here that have more than enough to go around if need be.................;)

LOL are you that far from civilization that there are militia's in your back yard?

Yup, and love it out here.....;) Only bad part of living so far out is that if I need a computer part in a hurry and Wal-Mart doesn't have it, the closest computer store (Comp USA, Best Buy and the like) is a hour and a half drive (one way) from the house.
