"Hot on the heels of Dell's Alienware acquisition, another Silicon Valley giant scoops up another PC gaming-rig manufacturer."

Geez, next up for assimilation: ?

So first HP and Compaq screw each other up and now they're looking to ruin another company? Good job guys...

Well, actually the article I read made it abundantly clear the two co-owners behind Voodoo PC were very happy with this, in large part due to the 1.something billion R&D budget HP has. ;) And I am sure after Dell bought their rival Alienware this'll really just balance things out a bit again for them.

I'm sure they're happy. They're making a ton of money off of the deal. When they start getting bogged down with corporate BS they'll change their tune. The current owners will take their money and run and leave Voodoo PC to die a slow corporate death.

HP has a huge R&D budget, how much do you think will actually go to the little tiny sliver that is Voodoo PC? Not much.

The company I work for is part of a larger 13 billion dollar company. We do about $300 million in sales. Do you think we get a first though much less a second thought when it comes to splitting up the R&D funds? Nope.... Neither will the Voodoo guys.

That may be true to some extent, but you can read their quoted opinion directly here: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4377 (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4377)

Infact both of them are getting head positions to oversee the gaming division, which is still Voodoo PC. Ravi even gets to influence HP's other corporate decisions from his position.

As a result of the acquisition Sood will become the Chief Technologists while Ravi Sood takes a new position as Director of Strategy for HP’s gaming division.

I remember Rendition raving about how good it was for them to be bought up by Micron. :-(

Time will tell I guess... and you do have some valid points.
