It is as simple as plug and play. C2D's will get as far as 3 to 3.4ghz before a votage bump is needed... around 3.6ghz most smack into a wall and need exponentially more volts to creep higher.

The rest is dependent on the stability of your PSU, the quality of the motherboard, and how fast your RAM can go. In your case, you have all of that covered already ;) Don't know anything about that cooler, but it has to be better than stock.

Just set the RAM multiplier to "2", "+2v" your RAM voltage (Gives it 2v exactly), set "400" as the system FSB clock, and you are good to go. ;) I'll let you figure the rest out... XtremeSystems is a encylopedia of DS3 tips, tricks, and guides complete with BIOS pictures. Anandtech also has some as well.

The Voltage increases depend on the cooling used. I'm running my Core 2 Extreme X6800 at 1.4375v for 4.45GHz but it's cooled to around -25C (-12C under load).

If you really want some there's an Overclocking guide in TomsHardware's forum made by Wusy or over at Xtremesystems there are quite a few pro's there.

Kougar,

You and I are going to work together on me setting up my E6700 for some hopefully good overclocking. I am getting an Asus nForce 590 board soon. I have the DDR2 Redline 8000 so we should have fun overclocking it.

I thought nVIDIA cancelled the 590 series and replaced then with the C55+ MCP55?

It gonna be excellent for overclocking from what we heard and retail boards are coming in by end November. We can see clearly that NVIDIA is pushing it hard for November availability/launch, a month where many new products such as Kentsfield, Clovertown, G80 going to be announced. C55+MCP55 sports SLI x16 with a total of 50 PCIe lanes in 22/4 + 28/6 configs. It supports DDR2 800, 1333FSB, 6 x SATA2, dual GbE, HT 1.0, 10 USB, HD-Audio.

Well maybe I will never get the machine built

I refuse to use nForce 4 since I need at least 5 SATA 3 ports for my new machines HD layout that I have planned. I also need and SLI motherboard since I need to do SLI reviews.

So will wait and see what happens, Asus did contact me about reviewing and new nForce 590 board just 2 days ago and said I should have it soon.

can't wait to see what Asus has brought to the market. Nvidia is slow bringing the nf5 for intel to the market.

Orite thanks guys so RAM +2v then FSB to 400, then simply crank up the Ghz?? lol or is it abit more complicated..:P

you dont want to push it to max at the gun, pace yourself and go bit by bit or else if it cant go that high, or becomes unstable your going to fry something:twisted:
babysteps pat, babysteps

Pat, do exactly what I say, and if you are indeed using the hardware in your sig you should have a 100% stable overclocked system just from those changes. 2v on the mem is only .1v above spec. After that point though is where you will run into issues and make a bunch of changes to settings in your BIOS. ;) Ths DS3 is one of the top 3 best overclocking boards I know of, and you got all the right parts from the PSU on down. You should have a 3.6ghz OC easy, if your cooler is good.

Scott, it is probably a good thing then!! C19 based nVidia chipsets, which is all of them, can NOT overclock beyond 320FSB. They already get dangerously hot above 310FSB and require voltage hikes I wouldn't do on my own 965P chipset just to attain 320FSB. This new C55 based nVidia chipset refresh is purportedly supposed to fix their overclocking issues though...

What I wouldn't give for an Abit AW9D-MAX to review... ;) Guess I better get to this one first though.
