If you own a laptop, then you need to check your battery/batteries again, especially if you have already done so. The recall has been expanded, and previous batteries that were given the okay are now listed on the at-risk list by several different manufacturers, not just Dell.
I've already had Dell change their minds on one of my two notebook batteries, so I'm trying to get the word out so people will check theirs again. Thanks.
Here's the current tally on the "Total Recall" of Sony-manufactured batteries:
Dell: 4.2 million
Apple: 1.8 million
Toshiba: 1.1 million (340,000 batteries were already recalled earlier this month)
IBM/Lenovo: 526,000
Matsusita/Panasonic: 6,000

Which is why Sony sucks and it's hard to deny it, they often tell people that it's their fault if things break under warranty, so you have to actually pay for repairs under warranty, they put some "triggers" made to activate just a bit after the warranty ends. The reputation of their pre-'98 products is the only reason why people keep buying Sony. (In the years after they started moving manufacturing from Japan to Korea, Taiwan, etc., they started redesiging some things, much cheaper than before, etc. )

I was surprised my laptop battery wasn't on the list the first time. That thing gets so incredibly hot! I'm going to check it again against the new list.

Well, with any luck it will be? Batteries only last so long before becoming useless, I'm figuring this way I get a new $100 battery for free that I can use for another year before the charge starts to go on it.
Would have been interesting if it actually did blow up and take the laptop with it. I could either get a much more powerful/longer lasting model that replaced mine, or just get a full refund that'd about cover desktop upgrades... Oh well.
I have to wonder, if there are anymore battery recalls, I bet the people behind Sony's battery devision will be seriously discussing selling off that side of their business...

Luckily the Dell website says my battery is still OK. Let's hope so...
