Hi
i want to try and OC my system in windows - i mean making profiles for games and profiles for general work.
is there a utility i can use in windows the would
1) OC the CPU.
2) Change voltage of the CPU \ Chipset \ memory
3) OC the memory.
i know about RM_clock (http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml) but didn't figure quite how to use it.
I also hav't found any guide regarding it
any help would be appriciated:confused:

Have you given nTune a try? It's not the best, but it'll do the basics.
It's on the nVidia web site.

I've used it before, but didn't really care for it either, nothing beats a good ole bios OC........;)
Thing about my DFI board is that I can save different OC's for different projects, just boot into the bios and bring up the one I want, save and reboot..................:)

I don't know what MoBo you have, but Asus and Abit both have utilities that allow you to do that in Windows, you might want to check your board makers web site to see if they have something like that.

Also give ClockGen (http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php) a try.
ClockGen is an program dedicated to overclocking. Its main purpose is to change the system clocks on the fly : FSB (Front Side Bus) and GSB (Graphic Side Bus). ClockGen also provides some functions that allow you to improve and monitor your overclock.
http://www.cpuid.com/pics/cgpllcontrol.png
You can only control CPU voltage though.
You could try an OC'ing app that comes with your motherboard unless EPoX doesn't have an app like that.

Really? Well I am using an older version.
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/6466/clipboard01cq7.jpg
Try anyone of these download links for the older version:
http://rapidshare.de/files/35061241/ClockGen_v1.0.3.zip.html
http://cocoshare.cc/270221069/ClockGen+v1.0.3.zip/info/672813316
http://uploadhut.com/view.php/150055.zip
As far as any other windows based OC'ing app you could try the ones from MSI or Asus since EPoX doesn't have one but they might not work if you don't have one of their boards.

I really dislike using a program in windows to OC my computer, it is much mroe stable/better for the OC'd part if U oc t in the bios, especially since you are going to be turning it up and down up and down, depending on what game/app u are using at the time being

I agree but...
i would like to have gaming profile and user profile and the diffrence will be the OC settings MEM\CPU .
and i dont want to reboot in between

I use CBiD more like CPU-z. If you want more settings try A64 tweaker.

you need a pci lock
if you dont have one, you will only get up to 220 before you get hardrive damage(happened to me too, hirens boot cd <3)
see if you have a lock in your bios otherwise, your out of luck for fsb OCing:roll:

the PCI was locked @ 100 or i think so
did that made a permanaet damge or just data?

pci is clocked at 33 agp is 66 and pcie is 100 by default
i get corruption at 36 for my pci but only on my sata drive,
also its not only your hardrives that are being overclocked, its all yoru peripherals that are using the pci bus (including onboard sound, nic, and usb)
if you turn dma off in your bios, you should get a little more OC ability, but i said F it and stay at 220
*sigh* if only i could unlock my sempy:(
like i said your sol for fsb overclocking, is your cpu locked?
if so, then your in the same boat im in thats why im trying to mod my bios to lock it but idk if its even possible >_< i hate my mobo

Well i had to reinstall windows which is a bum
My cpu muli is open and i do FSB because i use x10 multi.
when i wrote pci i meant pcie clock @ 100
i am able to post (after BIOS OC) up to 2.8Ghz on stock voltage .
but i dont like the reboot option i like to have profiles i can load

I've been looking around the last couple of days for a windows program and haven't found one that really works all that well, most work well up to a point (mid-level OC's) but after that it seems to be hit and miss as to how stable they are.
Good luck finding one, I'll keep looking as well.

Adjust your settings in the BIO and use ClockGen; thats what I do and it works quite well and I can OC'ing and downclock at will without rebooting. Some users says using a OS based OC'ing app can mess a rig but its been great so far.

The best and most convient FSB change is Clockgen(Last version)
For voltage & Multiplier i use CBID

What do you mean adjust in the BIOS ?
To set my Max OC and then Downclock in windows ?
-- Small update --
My windows is now working after a clean install :paw:
but i think i will try the next time on an empty OS without any programs..
I am afraid i will ruin (phisically) my HD - is that a real risk can OC ruin a HD?

I've never heard of a HD really dieing from OC'ing, but anything is possible I guess.
I've killed my OS more than a few times overclocking though. I was so thankful when Nvidia came out with the PCI lock..........;)

But i want to understand if PCI lock == PCIE lock?

I'm not sure, although I assume it comes with a lock. The PCI bus lock has been around since long before the PCI Express bus came about.

the pci and pcie clocks are different things, you can OC them seperately
pcie overclocking doesnt give you any performance boosts, but it should stay at 100 when raising the fsb

I set my memory timings in the BIOS but keep the CPU at default speeds and use Clockgen to OC at will without rebooting since ClockGen controls the FSB, and CPU voltage. It also shows the PCI-E bus speed.

Well, nVidia was touting the nForce 590's ability to instantly overclock the PCIe bus by 25% or 30%... And you are right it yields less than a FPS of improvement ususally.
But G80 and R600 cards are going to need a boatload of bandwidth, even with all of the efficiencies and reductions in overhead DX10 brings about. So it will be intersting to see what happens in that case, things might change.

But when you raise the FSB your MEM speed also rises ...
And then you are limited .
this is why CBID gives the option to change the MEM multiplier that i don't see in ClockGen
BTW - where do i see the PCI lock?

I think werty is describing basically what I do. I have a locked multipier so I can't play with that fun stuff, but I set my base memory frequency in BIOS pretty far under what it is rated for. Then I use clockgen in Windows to raise the CPU frequency from 1600 up to as high as 2300. That is around where the CPU tops out before throwing errors. Conveniently, that brings my memory close to its rated potential.

my CPU is open form 3-10x so i can play this inside windows.
the only problem i saw was the memory divider i can work it with CBID
but i think using both CBID & CLockgen may have caused the error i suffered...

Could be, never a good idea to use different overclocking programs at the same time without shutting one down first!
