This Just Cooler DR-100 system dehumidifier keeps the slots and pins on your motherboard clean! It's easy to install, just attach to a vacant slot on the motherboard and let the moisture begin!

A system dehumidifier. Uhh....

But who the heack wants to put a heater in their case? Don't we already have enough of them with cpu's, video cards, and hard drives? Wouldn't a regular exhaust fan be fine?

I feel compelled to review one of these, just to see if we are all (including me) not giving it a fair chance.

I'll buy it if you review it.

I e-mailed them, and I will let everyone know if I ever hear back.

Look how old that motherboard is!

Hahahaha... I bet there's some VESA slots hidded behind that giant dehumidifier. What graveyard did they dig that thing out of?

They seem to have lots of old things @ geeks.com, they got some Athlon XP 2200, Geforce FXes,etc.

Dehumidifying a computer is a good idea, electronics don't like moisture(especialy old one), the problem is that this thing is actually useless because there's so much air flow in today's computers that it will never actually be able to pull it out. Sounds good to work in the giant electronics of an XT, but not a recent computer. It would be a nice thing to keep my MusicQuest always working, but I got an order shipped just a few days ago from geeks.com and don't want to pay for shipping again. I actually CAN find some use for it, freaky huh?

Do you prefer their MONITOR FAN ?
http://www.justcooler.com.tw/eng/product.php?mode=show&cid=19&pid=43

Their extremely ugly computer remote starter(With a giant antenna)?
It serves as a friendly user to those who couldn¡¦t get the hang of pushing the POWER/RESET buttons of their PC.
http://www.justcooler.com.tw/eng/product.php?mode=show&cid=19&pid=53

Or these ugly things to put around your wrist while using a keyboard?
http://www.justcooler.com.tw/eng/product.php?mode=show&cid=19&pid=42
Cold Treatment:
1. Refrigerate the pad at least one hour before use.
2. Remove the pad from the refrigerator.
3. Wrap wrist with the pad or use as a cushion by folding it into appropriate height.
4. Refrigerate the pack after usage.

Hot Treatment:
1. Heat the pad for 12 ~ 15 seconds with 500W microwave over.
2. Don¡¦t heat the pad exceed 20 seconds.
3. Test whether the temperature is appropriate before use.
4. Heat only 10 ~ 15 seconds when reuse.

Hahahaha... I bet there's some VESA slots hidded behind that giant dehumidifier. What graveyard did they dig that thing out of?
LOL, in fact the mobo with a DX4 I had used VESA slots w/o any onboard IDE, etc.
while the DX2 had PCI(!) slots, onboard IDE, etc. I think that my most powerful card that wasn't AGP was a VESA card actually, ATi Mach64 with 2-4 MB of RAM

You would think that the monitor fan would come with an AC power adapter instead of a long ugly red/black wire with a molex that you have to find a way to route it into your case. Since they did put a 4 pin molex on there they could have at least had the courtesy to make it a pass through so you don't have to give up one of your plugs just for your dorky monitor fan!

That just proves that old addage "There is a sucker born every minite"

how did we ever all survive without a DeHumidifier all these years...?

Im thinking that at 35,ooo rpm its pretty quiet too (like a Dremel)

LOL I didn't notice it actually has a 4-pin single row molex! Even weirder. What I wonder is if people actually buy these things. The only products that seem useful are the laptop coolers.

Electronics improved with time. I have an ISA 8-bit card in my P3, and, no, it's not working every days! But a slot fan dehumidifier is a bit crazy. I wouldn't trust this one, ther's an heater and is so cheap that it looks like it could take on fire.

35kRPM? The mfg site states 3500RPM, ~30dB (Yikes! Just 18CFM)

Judging by that picture, it IS an ISA motherboard because those RAM slots do not even look to be PC66 SDRAM. It's EDO, or some other kind I don't know.

Also, the product page for the dehumidifier first states it is to cool the computer. Then it states it is supposed to CLEAN the computer. Excuse me?

More importantly... this does not DE-humidify the computer like it says. They even state correctly it humidifies within the description. It puts moisture into the air inside the chassis.

I'd bet anything it will just cause condensation to build up behind the cooler sections of the motherboard and the backplate, and all it would take is one droplet to touch a mounting riser... Or what about inside those unused PCI slots between the gold pins?

geeks.com wrote contradiicting info on their site.

If you look at the mfg's site product description, it's easier to understand.

Character:
- "ON" DR-100 build-in heater will heat up the water mist on Natrium particle (Absorbent) to moisture and carry out by cooler fan.
- "OFF" the water moisture inside the computer case will be absorbed by Natrium particle as mist on it.
- Prolong the life of computerˇ¦s heart, especially the slot and pins, keep away from
dust and rusted caused by high density of water content.
- Easy installation, low noise and quiet fan, large inlet opening to exhaust widely.

I hear they have a huge need for those dehumidifiers in Nevada...

Really? How 'bout it Das? You on the list for one of these babies up there in Reno?

Das Capitolin

It's really very dry here. Humidity index is always among the nations lowest... which accounts for why everyone gets bloody noses so often... at least the half of us that aren't coke-heads anyway.

DragonMaster

You rather need humidifiers there. not enough humidity isn't too good for electronics too. I think it should ideally be between 30 and 60%, but as long as thigns work, we shouldn't matter.

Das Capitolin
10-01-2006, 07:25 PM
We are usually around 20-30%. Dry eyes and throats are the norm. Electronics don't care for humid environments, so I think that this area is probably ideal.

it would be better to put a silica gel filter in front of your intake fans/vents

I'll have to agree with you on that Mirrim as I'm originally from Divide, Colorado. no reason for those things there. But I moved here to Mo 4 years ago and AC in the summer time is a must, it's always hot and humid here in the summer. Sometimes I really miss the Colorado summers, but not the winters............;)

That actually is something I might be interested in. I have a wired version of that kind of thing which lets me turn on a system that I have buried away inside a cabinet. A wireless one might be cool. Hmm...
