Black Mongoose my new computer is starting to be built. Here are some early pictures of it.
Yup that is a PC Power and Cooling 1K Quad SLI in there ready for 2 8800GTX's.
The drives are 4 320GB Seagate 7200.10 getting ready for some RAID action.

Wow, you certainly don't do things by halves. Have fun building it and post more once you're done?

LOL.....It's just a simple pre-mod case for Scott, you know he doesn't have the time to mod a case himself............;)

Nice case. Is that a stock top pannel from Lian Li? I have the V1100 myself. Those guys make great cases!

Hi Scott how come your doing a raid 0+1 versus a raid 5 with 3 drives you will get the same amount of disc space and safety with 1 less drive?
I really do like the 1 kiloton psu you have....and its single rail to boot! I was on the PC power and cooling website and this psu seems to be the "mother" of all psus...

You get the goodness of two worlds with raid0+1: HD redundancy like RAID1 across 4 HDs and performance like RAID0 ;)

Yup RAID 0+1 is alot faster in writing. The RAID 5 was ok but god it was slow in writing.

I used to run a large RAID 5 SCSI array at my old job where network admin was one of my many hats. It had 10 10K RPM drives in RAID 5 using a Mylex controller for a Macola ERP/CRM database. I was amazed at how fast that thing would defrag a 200G volume while returning queries.
The mother of all RAID arrays is the 50 (or 5+0. parity+mirror). that is very expensive though as you only end up with about 40% of your drive space available for data.
Ahhhhh....those were the days...
