I used to play this simulator way back in 2000, even then the graphics were amazing. I will have to give it another go sometime soon. Good to see you back Mousiness.

I was thinkink about trying this game out but:
The Bad: Low frame rates on most current-day PCs.
The power of this software package is mind boggling. But that power comes at a price. On a system with an Athlon XP 3400+, 2GB RAM, and an Nvidia 7800 video card (certainly not cutting edge but also not unreasonable, particularly for the broader market to whom Microsoft is trying to reach out with Flight Simulator X), with performance options all set fairly low, frame rates averaged about 8 to 14 frames per second. This same system runs Flight Simulator 2004 at high settings with frame rates averaging 25-plus fps. In higher-density settings, such as flying over Las Vegas or some detailed airports, frame rates rarely climbed higher than 10fps. When flying fairly high or in low-density areas, rates would range in the high teens. There's a lot of discussion about the sim's performance in the flight sim discussion forums, yielding a variety of config-file tweaks to boost the performance, but be forewarned that it will take some serious high-end hardware to run Flight Simulator X at high frame rates.

Anything under 40-60fps is unbearable.
I wish that they had higher frame rates...
and more planes with bullets.

Yeah the prospect of flying around isn't too appealing even if there are actualy missions that involve who knows what,... like flying around,... and more flying. I would probably get bored fast.

FlightSim 2004 ran perfectly on my 9800XT A-XP system on maxed settings. How are they getting at that machine runs 25FPS on that old game? Got something wrong there if you ask me. Anyways, is FlightsimX worth getting before DX10 is out?

Running DX9 i bet my machine would swat it like a fly. My question though was that machine on the site they mentioned ran2004 according to the on 25fps. My old machine ran it like my machine would run X on DX9.

you get- what 5 fps? my friends top-of-the line system like scotts runs flightsimulator2004 at 100.2 fps and flight simulator x at 60fps, when dx10 comes out the game will show its true colours ;)

I tried the demo and my specs got pwned pretty hard. Honestly though, we need a good combat flight sim. The days of ATF->USNF->ATF Gold->Fighters Anthology->IAF->USAF, Falcon 4.0. We were just hitting a time when flight sims were getting complex and good, when the assholes at EA decided to shut it down.

I can run at 1920x1600 just fine with 4xaa and 8xaf and all details on.

Flight Sim X will get much better for those that can install the DX10 add-on patch... going by the current screenshots it might as well be Flight Sim IX without that patch installed to enable all of the eye candy/graphics they can't do under DX9. ;)

Those were the days. While I spent some time with the hardcore boys from New York with Falcon 4.0, my first love was the Jane's Combat Sims series. So much fun!
They called me Psycho then.

Null, you didn't happen to play Fighters Anthology online from MPlayer or the Janes system, eh?

I played the Jane's series with everyone everywhere.
There were many Psychos back then. I even killed myself a few times.
We starting flying ATF (dos-based and IPX) on Kali.net and with Kahn for DOS.
Things got easier when they ported to Windows 95. No more DOS shortcuts. Yay!
