Hi. Recently I posted a cry for help concerning my 7950gx2 card that apparently died on me. After receiveing much appreciated feedback from the forum members, I decided to RMA the card back to newegg. Well, today I get a notice of refund, not replacement. I call newegg, and they tell me that not only is the item out of stock, but it has been discontinued. I was about to place another order thru a different retailer for a replacement 7950 from XFX...but need some clarification on it's status before I do this. Thanks in advance.

It doesn't look like it's discontinued from their website, maybe that board in particular? They have more than one 7950 models.

The card will be phased out in the future since G80 is right around the corner. But you should be able to get one from somewhere. Depending on how much you spent you may want to wait a week sine G80 launches in a week.

Hmm...was not aware of that. Well, the original cost was something like $586from newegg. I guess I should start checking on what's going to be new in the G80 line. I really have not taken an interest so far(partly due infact that I didn't realize the launch was so close). I'm currently having to do things with my laptop(x800gpu), and it's starting to become a little frustrating :) . Thanks for the update and the advice.

Take my word for it, you will want G80:lol: And you have enough money for it there. I love mine!! You can read our reviews on the 8th.

Dear Dungeoncrawler, Xfx is still selling the Gx2 cards but they were a limited production line and as such may be difficult to find. You can check tigerdirect, MWave, NCIX and others for your particular model. Another good site is pricegrabber.com. If you post your ordering code (PV-T..) I can assist you in locating a suitable replacement.

Getting a refund is a great choice to take in this case as Scott said so why get another GX2 when the G80 is the future and is much much faster than a GX2?

Very kewl...thank you kindly :). I beleive my previous was the 530 series of the extreme(7950). I did find a 570 extreme for a little more cash, although am currently awaiting newegg to credit my credit card :(. However, it seems that I might want to go ahead and await the arrival of the G80 chip. With that in mind, I still feel very secure with purchasing a XFX version of this upcoming card. Although the duration was short, the XFX 7950gx2 was a blazing fast card with good image quality. No complaints, other than it dying on me :).

P.S. Unfortunately I do not have a temp replacement card for my desktop. I assume the November 8th that I keep reading about is a 'decent' time frame for a POSSIBLE retail release?

NDA doesn't necessarily mean it will be in stores the same day as the NDA date. Most times you have to wait a month.

You could always hold off with a PCI GPU till then.

The fact of the matter is I still need to recover from my windows problem also. Probably going to need to reimage I think. One of those pesky WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM corrupt or missing things. I knew if I kept messin with that gpu that was defective, it was going to mess with windows, eventually. To your point, might need to pop a cheapy gpu in there and get things ready. LOL...the funny thing is that I had both my 7800gtx's that were originally in my desktop. Just did sale them both on ebay. Just been the kind of luck I've been running with as of late :). Could be worst though...I could be dead

P.S. Oh yea...gotta replace the LCD on my laptop as well...get this...I can send it back to Alienware/Dell, and they will charge me $560 for the LCD, and $259 for the labor, plus shipping. Or, I can buy the exact same LCD for $250 off of ebay and install it myself. Now that's a hard choice :)

And then some people wonder how they are able to turn in such great profits...

The G80 is a hard launch folks. They will be for sale that day.

Also watch Bjorn3D for a massive launch. We will not only review on XFX on my system, but a Leadtek on Miles system and a Sparkle on Bjorns system for 3 full reviews on 3 different speeds of systems on the 8th.

That'd be great if they can pull it off! The info I was hearing said the 14th was the day for general availability to occur, so I'm going to have to see it to believe it.

Very much looking forward to seeing those reviews guys!! :paw:

Can't wait for the reviews. Hopefully the Nov 8 date will hold up. Concerning the DX10 cards(G80). Will we see a dramatic increase in performance on the current software (Oblivion, GRAW, etc.) available? Would be nice to get constant 60+ FPS on say OBlivion :) Thanks.

P.S. BTW...was the XXX version a limited release? I looked all over for one and could only find the 530 and 570 version(extreme) of that card. Thanks.

Give this a look through ;)

I tihnk the G80 is 2x, maybe more depending on the CPU since the G80 is very CPU dependent, times faster than a 7950GX2 ;)

Holy crap that is some serious hardware.

Anyhow I don't think I wil see the G80 appear anywhere in a Canadian etailer but it don't matter anyhow since I won't buy one.

I don't think the XXX was a limited version; it is just another OC verison. A limit version card is the 7900GTO.
