You first need a round corner to bend the plastic! ;) (I can't think of anything I have here)
but for my Bday I got a heat gun (fancy hairdryer)
People, don't dry your hair with this tho, it's REALLY hot, you can melt paint with these (Heat gun's normal use)
That's very good looking Mark!
great job mark
a while back i was thinking about building a comp kinda like this... but i didnt have the skills needed :(
im looking at doing it now... but in a upright design kinda like the mountain mods version...
wow i lost a lot of stuff in the move that i thought i put in a carfull place that wouldnt be lost!:???:
good luck with the contest mark... did you get your house done yet?
markkleb
11-01-2006, 11:17 PM
LOL, its definately no hairdryer... For round corner I took out one of the rods in my closet where you put the hangers. Its about the right shape for the bend

That's a pretty good idea! Thanks Mark!
I had the gun and hanger pole for years, but not the acrylic ;)
Hey, jsut think at it, I think my parents did buy 1-2 acrylic panels years ago, and they're still unused.

Than I glued then to the mobo tray with acrylic solvent. Its kind of a pain to use as its thin like Solvent.
Isn't it solvent? ;)
Was the bottle with the needle coming with the solvent? if not, would old inkjet refill bottles work or the cap will weld itself to the bottle?

Those are some really serious cements!! $6 doesn't sound to bad for it... ;)
DragonMaster
11-03-2006, 01:49 AM
I am no chemist but the bottle says "cement" but its REALLY thin (like water)
It says "solvent ciment"!
Cement only means that it's "welding" things together once it dries, it's not the concrete thing!
Here's the wikipedia definition:

markkleb
11-03-2006, 02:09 AM
well, having worked on houses for about 25 years im pretty sure its not the concrete thing:roll:

That is a nice case. I love the looks of acrylic. Is that heatsink for the northbridge chip? (Sorry if I got the term wrong)
markkleb
11-08-2006, 04:43 PM
yep 2fast, Its a Coolermaster Blue Ice chipset cooler. It comes with a 40mm lighted fan in its middle. I took the fan out because I am going to use a 120mm fan to cool it and the 2 video cards instead.
thats one of the reasons i chose the Biostar Tforce SLI mobo too, they put the northbridge between the 2 video cards (not under them) The other is it is Soooo easy to OC stuff.
PP Mguire
11-08-2006, 11:11 PM
I believe you can do the same with the DFI Lanparty ;)
markkleb
11-08-2006, 11:22 PM
If you have skills in OCing there is no equal to the LanParty Expert.
Therefor I believe the LP Expert is majorly wasted on me.
The Biostar has a program in the bios that lets even me set mt 3700/Opty 148 go to 2750mhz with the greatest of ease.
PP Mguire
11-08-2006, 11:32 PM
Thats why you should have gotten a SLI-DR instead of the Expert. I dont really like the expert anyways. I agree on ease of OCing though, i hate wasting alot of time trying to get a higher clock speed.
werty316
11-08-2006, 11:44 PM
As long as a board can OC, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a DFI board, and it has at least two PCI slots, any board will do for moi ;)
PP Mguire
11-08-2006, 11:58 PM
Eh what can i say im a DFI fan boy. I just love the UV part of the boards and the excelent performance i get outa them. Of course i would buy only one other board.

I spent 11 hours soldering today, Nothing New?
Hehehe, mobos are a real pain to solder compared to any other PCBs. Probably because of the amount of cooper there's under the layers. The only time I had to change capacitors on a motherboard, I had to set my soldering station at 850 F to get the solder to melt, which is burning the iron's tip.
i need to get a good with electrical stuff... :(
GIBSON
11-10-2006, 08:02 PM
Nice work mark! Nice to see you are thinking about noise as well (most mods we only see and don't hear, so it's a bit of work that most people will never notice :))
DragonMaster
11-10-2006, 08:28 PM
Mark, it looks like you had lots of fun! ;)
i need to get a good with electrical stuff...
It's quite simple actually. You need ~$200-$225 to have a decent iron and multimeter and start playing with simple things. I started with a $20 iron, but wished I had my soldering station since the beginning(Things go much better now, no problems getting the solder to melt anymore, I never killed stuff made of plastic since, except LEDs).

markkleb
11-12-2006, 08:13 PM
I got it because it was tall and I was able to mod it to fit between the SLI cards. There is gonna be a 120mm fan blowing through a tube to cool it and the Passive Video Cards.
There is origionally a 40mm fan that goes in the middle hole, But when I use my 120mm Silenx fan it just slows down the air, lol . So I took it out.

markkleb

DragonMaster
11-13-2006, 12:08 AM
It's not because the case is small that the CPU isn't powerful, H20 can be useful ;)
Here we have a proof that with a well-thought case layout, you can put much more than you could believe in a small space.
markkleb
11-13-2006, 12:26 AM

So I have to re-engineer the mobo tray. I should have it done late tonight.
Cross ur fingers:lol:

DragonMaster

I thought about using the Broke one but I really want this to be a WORKING mod.
That's always better if you plan to use it after the contest ends ;)
On this mod I also soldered the USB, Power switch and MediaLab wires to the back of the mobo so there were a LOT of chances to fry it. GREAT mobo DFI!
Unless the PCB is really crappy and you find a way to fry the traces or physically damage them, you shouldn't have problems soldering a motherboard. They get soldered in reflow ovens when they are manufactured, and then washed in dishwashers (Don't try this unless you're able to find 100% real H2O tho) ;)
Some components that don't like dishwashing or oven heat are soldered later, you can find rosin flux around these components on some boards.
