this isnt about my rig its about my brothers... hes got a HP .... Specs.
AMD 3500+ (single core)
7200rpm hdd
1gb ram
Nvidea 6200TC (this is what the question is about)

We recently bought a 7600Gt to put into this system.. he currently has a 288W psu that came with the computer was just wondering whether this psu would be enough???

Maybe if he wants to blow that 288W PSU  hahah

I recommend that he needs atleast a quality 450W PSU with atleast 28A on the 12V rail.

Pat, I can't give you an answer without knowing the amps on the 12v rail of that PSU. If you have the exact model # of that psu..?

You seriously need to know that? With a 288W that should be a given a new PSU is needed for that setup and its from an HP.

According to this he can probably get by with his current PSU. I added a fan and a CD-RW and I also used the most power hungry 3500+ on the list.

An upgrade from the 6200 to the 7600 really doesn't tax the PSU that much more.

I am just going by recommended specs ;)

System builders are extremely conservative about their PSU ratings... that "288w" PSU likely has more available amps going through it's rails than some purported 500watt units. I just can't be sure without seeing the spec sheet...

And XJnine is right in that upgrading from a 6200 to a 7600 is not much of an increase. The 7600GT isn't even close to needing it's own power connector.

DON'T CHEAP OUT ON YOUR PSU!!!! It is an extremely important component in any system and suffient funds should be bugeted towards a quality PSU... If you've never heard of the company, do some research and find out if their PSU's are re-badged and/or just junk. It could save you alot of potential headaches ;)

Cheap PSU alert! Go and buy a quality PSU as that one is a POS.

Worest case: it'll blow on you and then you'll buy another POS PSU and that goes too and you'll continue this trend untill you have spend enough $ to buy a quality PSU.

A PSU is like the heart of a PC and if its a POS it ain't gonna live long.

I like Antec, but there are a bunch of good brands out there. See what you can find locally and then look on-line for some reviews.

We have a bunch of reviews here at Bjorn3D, like this one (http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=242) for the Antec 430 that I'm currently using. I've had it for 3 years and it's going strong.

Here are some other power supply reviews (http://www.bjorn3d.com/content.php?cat=15&Submit=Go&viewcat=1).

Stick w/ a name brand and avoid headaches. It's also a good idea to have a spare PS on hand (in case it ever dies). A spare is also useful for diagnosing hardware problems; you can easly rule out power issues by swapping it in.

That PSU should be enough for this setup you mentioned:

AMD 3500+ (single core)
7200rpm hdd
1gb ram
Nvidea 6200TC (this is what the question is about)

I would go with the Seasonic:

But if its out of stock go with the Enermax:
