Hi all.
Was very very happy with my 6800 GT until a few weeks ago when it died badly on me (garbage on screen even on bootup etc).
The cards never been overclocked and I submitted a suport ticket here in the UK, ticket number 68015.
I brought the PC on 25th September 2004 from special reserve (now bankrupt) and submitted my support ticket on the 18th October 2006, 2 years and 23 days after I brought the card.
I spent £321.99 on this card which is about £250 more than I've ever spent on a graphics card before. My old graphics card is still going strong after 4+ years in my sons PC.
I asked the following on my support ticket:
I paid 320 for it and would expect it to last more than this amount of time. It`s never been overclocked etc The warranty date printed on on the box is 0804 If it`s not covered by any warranty I notice some card manufactures offering 3year, 10 year and even lifetime warranties on their products, is there any sort of repair replacement deal that I can take advantage of?
and I got the following responce before my ticket was closed
Hi, sorry to hear it does appear faulty, I know it would seem a waste to have to throw away a good card like this, unfortunately, we do not offer a repair service and it is well out of factory warranty. Sorry we cannot be of any further help.
I find this pretty harsh. 23 days out of warranty and I've blown my money. What then makes it even worse is that I then come across this site http://www.neoseeker.com/news/story/4880/
which says that if I had lived in North America I would have a warranty for the life of the card.
Is there anyone at XFX that can look into this further please as spending this sort of money, I do expect it to last more than 2 years and 1 month.
Also at some point in the next year my exisiting PC will be handed down to my son and I will be purchasing a new one. When there's companies out there offering 10 year and lifetime warranties etc on their cards, being let down like this is not likely to make me remain a loyal XFX customer.
best
Phil
