Hi all.

Was very very happy with my 6800 GT until a few weeks ago when it died badly on me (garbage on screen even on bootup etc).

The cards never been overclocked and I submitted a suport ticket here in the UK, ticket number 68015.

I brought the PC on 25th September 2004 from special reserve (now bankrupt) and submitted my support ticket on the 18th October 2006, 2 years and 23 days after I brought the card.

I spent £321.99 on this card which is about £250 more than I've ever spent on a graphics card before. My old graphics card is still going strong after 4+ years in my sons PC.

I asked the following on my support ticket:

I paid 320 for it and would expect it to last more than this amount of time. It`s never been overclocked etc The warranty date printed on on the box is 0804 If it`s not covered by any warranty I notice some card manufactures offering 3year, 10 year and even lifetime warranties on their products, is there any sort of repair replacement deal that I can take advantage of?

and I got the following responce before my ticket was closed

Hi, sorry to hear it does appear faulty, I know it would seem a waste to have to throw away a good card like this, unfortunately, we do not offer a repair service and it is well out of factory warranty. Sorry we cannot be of any further help.

I find this pretty harsh. 23 days out of warranty and I've blown my money. What then makes it even worse is that I then come across this site http://www.neoseeker.com/news/story/4880/

which says that if I had lived in North America I would have a warranty for the life of the card.

Is there anyone at XFX that can look into this further please as spending this sort of money, I do expect it to last more than 2 years and 1 month.

Also at some point in the next year my exisiting PC will be handed down to my son and I will be purchasing a new one. When there's companies out there offering 10 year and lifetime warranties etc on their cards, being let down like this is not likely to make me remain a loyal XFX customer.

best

Sorry to hear about your dilemma. I will team with our Europe Division and see if I can help, but I can promise nothing. Better to ask and be told no then to not ask at all.

Have just recieved another reply from XFX Europe after pointing out that it was only 23 days out of warranty from the date I purchased it, only to get the following responce before my ticket was closed again.

""Hi, the lifetime was only issued in the US, we cannot go by your purcahase date, it is the date of manufacture we have to go by, which was august, sorry we cannot help here. Regards XXXX"

Not your fault I know, I appreciate your nothing to do with Europe, but a word in your bosses ear might be a good idea

I'm about to purchase a 8800 GTX card and only wanted the 6800GT for my sons PC (as a replacement for his 5700). There is no way I will ever buy an XFX product again, had they exchanged it (I even offered XFX Europe to do some sore of deal over a repair/replacement, I wasn't asking for a free replacement), then I wouldn't have hesitated to buy XFX again. Bearing in mind at least 1 person a week asks my advice on configuring/purchasing a new PC for them, this hasn't been a very good public relations exercise on XFX Europes part.

Had it been a few months from the warranty date then I could understand more, although when I spend what amounts to aroound $606 on a graphics card, I do expect it to last for more than a couple of years.

What makes it worse is that I am told by XFX Europe, quote:

"Unfortunately, we do not offer a repair service and it is well out of factory warranty. Sorry we cannot be of any further help. Best regards XXXX"

yet your web site states under the warranty section, quote:

"WARRANTY PERIOD: XFX warranties hardware Product for a period of two (2) years. WARRANTY PROCEDURE: Upon return of the hardware Product XFX will, at its option, repair or replace Product at no additional charge, freight prepaid, except as set forth below. Repair parts and replacement Product will be furnished on an exchange basis and will be either reconditioned or new"

As you can tell, I'm a little angry, again I know it's not your fault. But when I'm told on the warranty page you offer a repair service, then get told you don't etc, and I now have a useless paperweight for a graphics card, I think I need to go out and have a stiff drink

best
