Hey there,

I've already registered a help desk ticket (71034) regarding this, but my patience is wearing thin.

My system is as follows:-

AMD Athlon X2 4200+ (socket 939) (downloaded all of the dual core patches)
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe (running 6.65 nForce mobo drivers, and BIOS 1016)
SuperFlower 550W SLI PSU
2Gb Corsair ValueSelect pc3200 DDR (4 x 512)
PCIe XFX GeForce 7900GTX Extreme Edition (91.31 Forceware Drivers)
Windows XP SP2

Initally I was having problems with games crashing after 5 minutes of play. I seem to have rectified this problem by purchasing a 4800RPM thermaltake 80mm fan (mounted above my video card)

Games all seem to be working correctly, while I am in the games, but after playing any D3D games for any extended period of time (an hour +) when I quit the game, my monitor flickers on and off, constantly (monitor as a Viewsonic VA702 17" flat panel) each subsequent flicker seems to cause more corruption on the desktop. I can still move the mouse around, but this seems to exascerbate the problem, eventually leading to a "no signal" and monitor going into standby. I then have to reset my computer.

I've noticed that openGL games do not have this problem at all.

Has anyone else come across this issue? Ive tried so many differnt driver versions, none of which make any difference.

I've tried to reinstall directX but it seems to not actually install anything (which makes me think that the DX installer is not picking up any corrupted files in my DX installation)

I'm really disappointed, as I have had NO END of problems with this card.

My previous set up consisted of 2 x geforce 6600GT's in SLI, all of the other components are identical. These problems have only arisen since installing the XFX card.

If anyone can offer me any suggestions at all, I would really appreciate it. I've spent AU$820 on this card, and so far seems like a complete waste of money.

And btw, its a single monitor configuration, not dual. I noticed a similar problem to what im having where people were running dual monitors

Thanks in advance,

Matt Toyne

PS. Ive only just noticed that there are 6.8x Nforce drivers...So i am downloading those. Will report back

Be sure you are running drivercleaner (http://www.drivercleaner.net/) to fully remove old drivers before you install anymore.

The only other thing I'd suggest is checking to make sure there's no dust clogging the GPU heatsink, and checking your voltage rail levels. XFX Support should arrive tomorrow to help ya.

Thanks for the reply!

The components are all dust free (I have lint filters set up throughout the case) and the GFX card is less than two weeks old! and is still shiny!

Voltage rails are all perfectly stable, and are ample. Monitoring the card temps while gaming, and it doesnt ever pass 48 degrees celsius (which is NICE and cool for a 3d Card) So its not overheating...in fact, i'm sure once all is functioning correctly I might be able to wind it up some! (default clocks are 675/1750)

The only thing I find strange about the whole problem is that openGL games seem to be unnaffected (screamingly fast framerates, and no issues whatsoever)

I have had a thought, although I havn't tried it yet. Could it be something to do with games still holding settings from the last time I ran them on my 6600GT SLI setup? I might try reinstalling the troublesome games and see if that makes any difference.

I also have a 19" CRT and I have not yet tested the games on it. So I will do both of these things and report back with my findings.

Cheers!

Matt

Uninstalling the display drivers and using DriverCleaner cures this.

Do as Kougar suggested and uninstall your nVidia display drivers and then use DriverCleaner to make it is fully uninstalled and then install your display drivers.

Reinforcing what has already been suggested it would be a good idea to run driver cleaner. Also I see that you are using the 91.31 driver and I recommend you visit www.nvidia.com for the latest driver version. Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
