We're getting the samething here in Missouri right now (mainly Ice for now), it's really kind of hard keeping a connection via my satellite in crap weather like this. we're supposed to get up to a foot of snow by the time this is over, that combined with the ice we all ready have is going to make for some fun times.......not.......now if the power just stays on everything will be great.
And like you folks down in Texas, we had near record highs yeasterday here. Just think, I was out mowing my backyard in shorts and a "T" shirt yesterday evening...............:jawdrop:

You will be surprised but we don't have snow yet here in Montreal (Quebec)
Actualy even more surprising this is how hot it is for the first of December (well it is still the 30th but whatever)
57 °F / 14 °C
We are like 2 weeks late for snow and its pretty hot.
Looks like a Spring day.

You gotta love the snow eh?
Kinda surprising you got snow since you live in Texas
The planet must finally be feeling the effect of pollution.
well It was -16.6F yesterday. Man o Man is it cold here!
Thats -27 Celsius.
I would love to show pics and I will soon but someone stole my charger so I have one on ebay and I will be back in action and posting on here soon.

Texas gets snow all the time, just not as muc as other parts of the US...............
As for us here in Missouri, we've been having ice rain pretty much all afternoon into the evening and for the last 2 hours or so we have been without power, the south east side of the front anyway. Things are predicted to get worse through the night with the ice rain turning to snow with up to 6 to 8 inches by morning. That along with the 3 to 4 inches of ice on the ground should make for some interesting times.............:ahhhhh: Good thing I'm ready for crap like this with a home generator and wood burning stove for heat, not to mention it's about the only time when my satellite link comes in handy to talk to folks.
The weather was partly cloudy and in the mid-seventies here in Central Florida today. :na::snoopy::snoopy::snoopy::na:

Yea yesterday the record high was 83 and we hit 82 lol. Usualy by now when i was in school and had to walk to the bus stop it would be freezing ass cold. But NOOO now that im outa school and want the cold it stays warm all the way till it HAS to get cold. After today (friday) the temps are gonna go back up unfortunately. And Texas does get snow all the time just not the DFW area. The panhandle gets alot and the all the time below freezing temps for winter. Were lucky to see ice every year. What kinda SAT you have? I have Direcway that i have to use as main interwebz here and it SUCKS. Everytime you have clouds go over you lose signal. What kinda crap is that? I want Aircanopy.
*Aircanopy here is the "Out in BFE" Cable connection. You order something like SAT (cept cheaper by $40) and your connection is through a radio tower. Heavy storms with lightning dont even affect it. *

We've got Driecway as well, and it does suck, but we only get dropped during heavy storms. It stayed on pretty much all day yesterday through the storms, just slow as hell.
Right now in our area everything is iced over and trees and powerlines are down all over the entire area. The power company says that there are something like 500,000 people without power again (second time this year) and it could take 2 to 3 days to get power restored. I don't have enough gas to last that long, so I may have to venture out on the roads if it takes to long to restore power...........:(

My SAT is out of signal again cause we have a light covering over our area. Ive called Direcway about it MANY times and they never do anything about it.

Those are some nice pics!
While the Texas panhandle does tend to get some snow... most of Texas doesn't. It has not "snowed" locally since the year I was born I think, and that was over 20 years ago  Sleeted, yes, but not a coating of snow AFAIK.
It did actually drop to below freezing though two days ago, which was nice. Never made it below freezing last night though. :-P

Yeah, we actually broke a heat record in Sherbrooke... 19-20 c or so. People were walking around in shorts. Highest temperature ever recorded for that date.
That was 2 days ago, now we're enjoying the snow and ice. :) I better start the heating. Or get more machines folding.

I remember back in the late '70's I went to Dallas (Love Field) to pick-up some modified UH-1H's for the Army, it was supposed to be a 2 day turn around and head back home. But then came the ice and snow, and we ended up staying there for a week till the weather cleared enough to fly aircraft back to home station. All in all a great trip, ate, slept and drank at a top hotel at the governments expence........;) Your tax dollars at work.
By the way, we're on our 3rd night without power or phone service. High temps during the day around 32F and lows around 5-10F.

Why does it take so long for yall to get power back?
Bio-Hazard
12-03-2006, 02:48 PM
Our local power company totally sucks. Every time a storm blow through here, doesn't matter what time of year, you can pretty much count on the power going out for a few days. Even in St Louis it takes days to restore power , the management really needs to pull their heads out and bring the grid they own up to some sort of standard. This is the reason I spent $1000 for my generator and wired it directly into the house, you can pretty much count on using it at least once a month or more for at least a day.
Still no power here this morning, but at least the phones are working now, they came on late last night.

We have a generator in our RV that my dad rigs to the house. Idk how he does it but it does work. We just cant use much on it. At least our power company dosent suck that bad.

Well, we had 17°C/63°F IIRC a few days ago in Montreal, then Friday, freezing rain(Which melted during the night), Saturday, nothing but c0lD heavy winds(Some lost power as well), and today, well, 4cms of snow and nice temps.
Bio-Hazard
12-03-2006, 11:35 PM
Well, we're still without power, I'm getting real tired of listening to this generator 24/7..........:( Temps as of right now are 25f/-4c, with a windchill of 13f/-10c, so it's a little on the chilly side for this part of the country, and without heat and power, it makes things all that much worse.
DragonMaster
12-03-2006, 11:54 PM
It sucks you have a powerco that bad, power outages are extremely rare where I live since the 1998 ice storm, even with outdoor power lines, Hydro-Québec improved things a lot since, just in case it happened again. I don't recall of any power outages since. IMO, it's not really necessary to have a generator running 24/7, stuff in the fridge can go outside and you wear coats in the house.

Yea we dont have central heat cause the blowers out but its 80 in my room cause of my water bed and PC. We have pwer outages when its really windy outside. Other than that somebody has to run into a pole on the main road to run outa power. Last night it was 27F and i pumped my gf home on my bike cause we cant afford extra trips right now (Sister lost her job) and her parents where being dicks. I didnt really feel the cold though cause i love it. Right now id say its at least 30F outside and its still farily warm in my house. Its nice to have a manufactored home. (Clayton double wide)

That is waaaay too much information. :jawdrop:
Last night I watched a talk show, one of the guests had just come back from a scientific expedition to study the Antarctic ice shelf... and could not find any ice. (I said it as if he meant litterally, but I think he meant they did not find the "fresh" winter ice banks they expected, because the temperature was 5 c above what they normally are in winter). Also he had a pretty good tan - apparently you can get sunburnt in winter in the Antarctic if there's a huge hole in the ozone layer - ozone litterally soaks up radiation and is something we'd have to manufacture if we want to terraform Mars.)
So anyway, my point is that apparently the weather's messed up and it's getting worse. We're in a surprisingly mild and stable period in Earth's weather history, we're overdue for an ice age, but weather scientists can't agree on what's going to happen next, so I suppose all we can do for now is exercise our political power and build flood-hurricane-asteroid-proof homes.
I want one that's a big ball of cement. It would float and resist pretty much everything. :)
Sorry for the rant - I think talking about the weather is one of Canada's biggest pastime. :)

No snow to speak of in Montreal so far. We had a few flakes yesterday, but no accumulation. I remember one winter in the mid 80's with almost no snow, but we had temperatures in the - 40F range. I also remember that winter because I was driving a '72 VW bug with no heater. I swear it was colder in the car than it was outside.

Yup I got a machine for makine snow. :jawdrop: . I few years back, I decided I want to be able to make snow. so I searched on the net until I came a cross a sight, that had plans for how to build your own snow machine, I bot a basic kit of nossels from them, followed there plans and then with God's help ( I still need it to be cold enough). SNOW SNOW SNOW. Snowathome.com is the site but over the last few years, the have turned it into a business, they sell snow machines now but they are not cheap. they still have the basic plans on the site though for free.

Last night i turned my server off and my PC off cause it was 90 in my room and i had my blanket half way on one leg so i could reach it if needed. I woke up this morning at 8 (after going to bed at 5) running for PJs, my large eVGA shirt, and my Spongebob slippers. It had dropped to 52 in 3 hours in my room alone. There are churches and cathederals dedicated to him in many Northern locations, including some above the Artic Circle. So I think, St. Nicholas and snow are not complete strangers. :icon_tiphat: .
