Guys I need a monitor really bad, as this 17" 16ms Viewsonic although performing great is driving me crazy.
I've narrowed it down to the NEC LCD20WMGX2 20" WS for now. It's currently IMHO the best monitor available to meet my short-term needs. My rationale is that within about 6-8 months SED Monitors (http://hardware.gotfrag.com/portal/story/32044/) will be a reality and almost everyone will be switching from LCD's to this technology. It will take the market by storm once it's perfected.
Ok down to the part where I need help...Newegg has the best price; but I'm somewhat hesitant to shop there again after what happened with the AMD CPU that I bought. For those that don't remember it was defective and NewEgg would not RMA it, so I challenged the purchase through my credit card company and won. I can buy it through the Monitor Outlet which has an excellent reputation or several other vendors, but NewEgg is still almost $30 cheaper...What do you guys think?

i would buy it at the moniter outlet, its actually a store that u can go to and the warranty would be better, cuz if somthing hapened at newegg, u would have to pay for shipping

Actually the Monitor Outlet is also a Etailer out of Florida, they just specialize in monitors and TV's.

Miles, I have purchased from TMO, and it is very reputable. I still purchase quite a bit from NewEgg (don't forget to add the Bjorn3d code) every single day, but I have found that certain items (CPU's, LCD's, and some RAM) are better left for purchase elsewhere. Besides, $30 may be worth the cost of hassle if a sale went bad at NewEgg.

For the extra $30, it will give you peace of mind... and less perhaps less hassle... I say go for it if you really can't wait for an SED monitor ;)

I would go with newegg
1) 30$ cheaper
2) They will recognize you (probably have a DB) and will double check your order.

yeah I remember your whole problem with newegg. Well i guess the nice thing about the monitor is that they usually carry 3 year warranty, so even if it's not working, you can always contact the manufacture and get the refund or replaced.
Though I think it would be nice to buy the monitor from a "real physical store" as if there's any dead pixel, you can get it replaced soon and probably free.
30 is probably not that big of price diff if you don't trust newegg. BTW, what about the tax, if newegg doesn't charge tax at your state, it maybe a better choice, 30 cheaper and no tax. If you don't get charge for tax, I probably would buy from newegg since they "generally" are fine merchant and like I said, you can contact the manufacture when there's a problem.

I am still running a CRT, going to go LCD shortly and you are telling me that this is obsolete already? FFS slow down and wait for me to catch up with display technology !!!

Well I've decided to wait until after Christmas to buy as the prices should drop drastically between then and the 1st of the year:icon_tiphat:
