Another one of thoes space pens, apparently they are now sold at military exchanges for 1/3rd the usual "Nasa Space Pen" prices... these things are so darn handy.
And technically my Dell 2407 was a partial gift, but I got it awhile back now. :)

Am I the only one that didn't get even a single sock for clothing? :ahhhhh:

LOL

well, a while ago I read in the paper that a woman in the US received this really big weird stone from her sister. She kept it for years and it turned out to be a big piece of whale puke. The stuff seems to be worth its weight in gold as it is used to make parfume etc. So she ended up selling it for a lot of cash :)

Whale puke? Well... I guess they can get seasick like anyone else. :)

I know what you mean though. In the summer I often spend hours searching garage sales and flea markets for collectibles. One of the best deals I made so far is one of those old all-wood hockey games (name slips my head for now, but it was made in 1945) that I resold 3 times the price :)

Nowhere near making millions, but you never know. :)

Well, if you really want to know, whales can't digest the bones etc. from the other fish they ate, so they puke them out after a while. It's supposed to be a really strong binding substance.

My main gift I got early but it was still x-mas. The wife let me get a new PC. I ended up with an EVGA 680i mobo, a Core2Duo E6600 with a Zalman 9700 cooler, an XFX 8800GTX, 2GB Corsair 8500 DDR2 memory, (4) 500GB Western Digital RAID edition HD's, a Plextor 755SA SATA DVD burner, and an Antec P180B case.

I stillended up getting a few things on Christmas day. A wok, a couple books, some pajama pants, socks, a dresser-top organizer for all my junk, and some cd's.

I got a Wii for the kids but that's kinda for me too... ;-) I guess all the bottle of wine I got for the wife are kinda for me also... Giggity giggity

Hey Kougar, your mom got you that radiator?? Or did i read that wrong? Cause thats pretty sweet.

XJ insanely nice PC man. Must be nice for teh woman to let you go out and buy PC parts.

And im guessing this Whale puke didnt come from one of the giant ones. They eat plankton, which of course has no bones ;)

If that Thermochil model was mountable in the same fashion and as secure a mount as this one, then I'd have jumped on it myself! Thankfully I know where she ordered that one from, got it over $50 below that price which is somewhat better... And did you see how much Thermochill wants for their radiator/fan guards, shroud, fans, before tubing/PCI slot and such? It quickly added up anyway... ;-)

That's a sweet rig XJNine! Let us know if you run into any problems with that motherboard... :thumleft:

Edit: Yea, she did. It was a heck of a surprise too, I guess I need to keep her in the loop on my pet computer projects more often  Is very nice to receive something you wanted/can actually use, for a change.

I had gone about 3 years without an upgrade so my wife knew I was due for a major overhaul.

I've had the system for about a month now. I had some initial issues with the SATA bug on the 680i mobo but I was able to get around the problem with my BIOS settings until they releasxed the fix a while back.

I'm currently running my CPU at 3.6ghz and my memory at 1100mhz. I've had the system post at over 3.7ghz but it would generate some errors in Orthos (program that runs 2 instances of prime95 to better test dual core cpu's). With some tweaking I hope to get it stable up there. I also want to see what the max speed I can get this thing to boot into windows will be.

I'm really looking forward to when nvidia releases their drivers for using one of their cards for physics processing. This motherboard has a 3rd PCIe x16 slot and I really want to throw a 7600 or so card in there for some physics action.

Yah, thermalchill isn't cheap either, that's why I don't have have one myself. The performance delta between any of the name brand radiators is not going to be all that much when it comes down to real world performance, with all the other components being equal anyway, maybe a degree or 2 at the most.

Heck yes for pillow cases. 2 Spongebob ones came with my set :)

Thats some pretty spiffy WC stuff there. And Nvidia is now doing the whole Physics thing too? I thought that was gonna die off like the PhysX card did.

XJnine
12-27-2006, 04:06 PM
ATI and Nvidia are pretty much the ones killing off the PhysX card by coming out with the ability to do physics on their GPU's. Being able to use an older, cheaper GPU, instead of the rather expensive PhysX card will mean that the video card companies will have a big advantage when the games supporting Havok physics start hitting the street.

werty316
12-28-2006, 05:19 AM
And Nvidia is now doing the whole Physics thing too? I thought that was gonna die off like the PhysX card did.

Considering there really isn't anything that took advantage of any physics card, it didn't really die off since there was nothing to start the physics age in PC gaming.

Ageia was just premature and wanted to be the first in the physic department in the world of PC games even though there were not killer apps for it.

Kougar
12-29-2006, 01:24 AM
Ageia tried to create a niche in the market for themselves, and by the time they suceeded in making physics processing a key word, they drew the attention of the GPU giants.

Considering GPUs are much better suited now for processing anything ya want, it shouldn't have been much of a surprise that it panned out like this. Even so, Ageia is still making good off of it since they distribute their PPUs through Dell and most enthusiast sites now, and people are buying them bundled with PCs.

PP Mguire
12-29-2006, 06:21 AM
Which is dumb because they dont even take full advantage of them. W/e
