Ok well i just recently aquired NFS Carbon. I go to install it and the first thing i notice is that when you go to click "yes" on the DirectX thing that there is nothing in the box above. When i do click "yes" it says i need DirectX 0 or higher to install. Now wth is this all about? My friend installed it fine and he got it the same time i did and was right next to me. Now this drive i run games on only has games, drivers, and Windows on it. Nothing more. So everything pretty much runs perfectly. Anybody have any ideas? I have the December update of 9C installed, yet he dosent.

Go to Start-->Run and type "dxdiag.exe" without the quotes, and hit enter or return. Make sure the diagnositics show everything is ok.

Did you use drivercleaner to clean out those drivers first? You should always install the video card drivers after a DX install, otherwise I sometimes see problems occur with the drivers after the DX update.

Also you should ensure you're not missing an ealier DX update, just go straight to MS and DL their DX installer, it will check for them all.

Ive done everything possible except reinstall XP or format. When you install the December update it install all updates prior to that too. Thats why the bins say Feb, august ect. When i do a clean install first thing i do is install DX, then i install chipset drivers, then Windows Installer 3.1, then Dotnet fix 1.1 and 2.0, then video drivers, then programs. Everything works fine except this game.

Well that sucks. If everything else and other games work just fine, then it's just an issue with the game itself. If fully removing & reinstalling the game yields the same problem, then you've pretty much proven the game itself has issues with the DX release.

If you don't have a backup or disk image or something to send the system back to before the DX update, then reinstalling the OS is the last option. There are now some new apps that claim to unstall DX versions, but I think that's just asking for trouble.

I've used one of the programs which claim to be able to rid your system of Direct X or take it back to the XP Default (8.1)

They told me they removed it but once I tried to re-install DirectX it said I already had 9.0c installed.

In the end I reformatted my system. Don't mess with windows system files. ;-)

The update you get from M$ comes on the DVD of Carbon and you cant install the game unless you install the Carbon DX files. I click yes, and it says i need at least DX 0 installed or greater. Whats even got me tickled is i reboot onto my internet drive and it installs with no big deal. I have both drives set up exactly the same with drivers and everything but yet it dosent install on the games drive. Im puzzled.

I guess it will require a reformat to fix that then. Unless those drives are identical and you can ghost it over. That would work :)
