Intel makes 8-core processing the new playground

At CES 2007 today, Intel announced a proof-of-concept PC designed specifically to counter AMD's 4x4 platform for gamers. Dubbed the "V8" system, Intel demonstrated a system running on a pair of quad-core Kentsfield Xeon processors for a total of eight physical cores.

The system was running at 2.4GHz utilizing a 1066MHz system bus and loaded with FB-DIMM memory. Graphics card was supported by a single NVIDIA 8800GTX. According to Intel, the "V8" system was able to dish out a score of 6089 on 3DMark CPU bench.

LOL That is just funny...

Makes sense though, they just rebranded a server board and voila. It's to bad AMD still can maintain a lead in the 8-way system performance since Intel's chips scale so poorly.

Yorkfield will fix the scaling issues due to cache coherency traffic fairly easy, so an 8-way K8L vs Yorkfield will be a different story I believe...

Screw fighting for who has the fastest chips, its the amount of cores you have that is the current battle.

Screw fighting for who has the fastest chips, it and amount of cores you have that is the current battle.
And this will be Intel's downfall again. As AMD has said this will turn out just like the gigahertz race.
