WOW!!! I guess it's only me, but ONLY today I've heard for the first time on the new Apple I-Phone!!! I heard about it today, because today Apple officially announced on it.
The Phone looks amazing and I guess the pictures talk for themselves. So...it's time to start saving money, because....this is my next phone. ;-)
Apple today introduced iPhone, combining three products,a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, searching and maps—into one small and lightweight handheld device. iPhone introduces an entirely new user interface based on a large multi-touch display and pioneering new software, letting users control iPhone with just their fingers. iPhone also ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, which completely redefines what users can do on their mobile phones.

LOL, good one XJ :) :D
Seriously though, that is one SWEEEET piece of tech.... say goodbye to your current cell phones and welcome the future :P Too bad that it's exclusive to Cingulair (?I think?) for the time being... I hope that these don't get whored out by "new" versions every year... :(

And already getting sued over the name, they don't own it..........;) Cisco does from 6 or so years ago, you would have thought that they would have checked that out.
SAN FRANCISCO - Cisco Systems sued Apple Inc. in federal court Wednesday, saying the computer maker's new iPhone violates its trademark.

Too pricey at the time at least in my book. $500 with a 2yr contract. It has all the features that today's phones have but it is simply sexy. I am starting to think of getting an I-pod (after it was intorduced a WHILE back) to replace my trusty i-river.

Yeah, Apple is "reinventing" the phone  . They can't just release a phone, they have to put a spin on it so it seems they came up with everything first (just as they did with their "MightyMouse").
I think it looks interesting but there are several problems I see with it:
* Only GSM. Yes, it has EDGE but here in Europe UMTS/3G as far as I know are more used and offers more speed. So while you can download songs from iTunes it will take time.
* Size. It's the same size as some of the QTeks (I know they changed name). To me it is to big for a phone. I want my phone small.
* Codecs. Just like the iPOD I am sure you will hve to convert anything you put on it (video etc.) to their format. To me that's a huge hassle. If I could get shows from iTunes I would mind less but since they still don't sell TV-shows here I'ms tuck with putting movies/shows in my mediaplayer myself. And I prefer being able to use the same codec as for my main Mediacenter.
* Only touchscreen. Touchscreen has been done before (just look at the various Qteks, Palms etc.) and so far I have not seen one single touchscreen phone where the screen hasn't been full of smudged fingerprints etc. you'll be wiping that screen daily even with screencovers to make it look good. I'm also not fond of using my fingers to dial/write SMS etc. but I'll wait to see how they solve it.
It simply annoys me that Apple tries to make it sound like they are making the first phone where you can listen to music/watch videos. Both Sony Ericsson and Nokia have some damn fine music mobiles which are small but work excellent as music-players and which also allow you to buy music from various carrier-music-stores. And we've had several Windos Mobiles which have been able to display video on large screens a long time.
It looks like an interesting phone but I'm really not sure over all the excitmenet. But since it's Apple all the Mac-bots will automatically buy it and therefore it will be a sucess. I wonder though if they will mainly canibilize on their iPOD sales. Look at it this way: instead of buying an iPOD many now might buy a iPhone, as long as the 4 GB or 8 GB is enough.

Yeah...you're ALL right they're not the first to come up with such a phone and the name "iPhone" does sound familiar, and I'm pretty sure I'ved heard about Cisco's phone already in the past, but you must admit, this phone is SEXY.
The problem, like Miles said, is that probably we'll have to use different converters to play sound and video on that phone and everything will be probably copy-protected, like Apple do on all their products.
But I still like this phone and I'll definitely take it into consideration on my next purchase, as I'm looking for a long time for a ALL-IN-ONE mobile phone.
One thing I didn't get, will it have an internal GPS, so one can use "Destinator" and similar programs for GPS navigation, or will it use only "Google Maps" service???
