View Full Version : Blizzard: Next MMO game "not another WOW"
Blizzard, if you think about it, does not have too many titles under its belt.
Still, it is tremendously successful.
I know that many times, fans and interviewers asked Blizzard's representatives about new titles that are planned within closed doors.
It seems that at last, we'll get to see a new title coming from Blizzard.
Not based on anything we saw before.
Also, fans of Starcraft and Diablo are given some hints about future releases regarding those games..
"When we announce our next MMORPG it's not going to be another WOW--we're not a company that tends to tread the same ground," he told British film magazine Empire. "It'll be something innovative and new that really brings entertainment to another level." American Blizzard reps delcined to expand on Bassat's comments, although the fact that the company began hiring real-time strategy developers last summer might offer a clue.
Pretty interesting news ;)

All I'm waiting for from Blizzard is the next Starcraft. It's hard to believe a decade has almost passed and still no sequel.
Man, I am with you!
This game rocks!!!
I still play it at home online and with friends at work on the local network.
Should be amazing to get the sequel.

Please, not another MMO. Never again.
I mean, Blizzard took its hardcore fanbase and made them all buy WoW. I'm pretty sure there's a conspiracy going around that the latest Diablo II patch was to make the game the buggiest thing ever so everyone would go buy WoW, and it doesn't really sound that farfetched if you've played the patch. I don't like how Blizzard's patches are very few and far between, when you look at other MMOs that patch weekly or even every couple of days. Burning Crusade added another world, but it took them a couple of years to do so! I think the prime example of what an MMO should be like is Everquest and EQ II, and I haven't even owned it.
WoW left me very bitter. :?

My main complaint about WoW is the price. It's the Dolly Madison snake cake of MMO's but for some reason they think they can charge like they are serving up a full meal. $40 for the expansion and it took them over 2 years to make it? The original game was only $50 - I don't think they added 80% more content. Oh well, when you're top dog I guess you do what ever you want. They should enjoy it while it lasts, Everquest (and Lineage) ruled for a while but look at them now.
It will be interesting to see what they do next, if I'm still around and interested - Cause what ever it is, it's years (and years?) away.
I totally agree, price is the only reason I am NOT playing WoW at all...

Up from the dead!
I just want to ask a few questions to those of you saying that it's a bad thing that it took them so long to come out with BC.
1. Do/did you play for the PvP or PVE aspect of the game?
2. Do/did you raid end-game content (Ony, MC, BWL, AQ, Naxx)?
I don't think most players that play WoW have even seen Nef downed in person, or C'Thun, or Kel'Thuzzad. So my opinion is that the expansion came out a just the right time. Really, how many of you can say that you had the lvl 60 raid instances on farm status? My guild used Ony, MC, and BWL as loot piniatas, and were making quite a bit of progress in AQ40 and Naxx before BC came out. Now we are about half-way through Kara at level 70. I think that there is a ton of playing to be had in the pre-70 world that not not many people can say that it took too long for the expansion because they were out of things to do.
Just my 2 cents.

I have a friend thats done most all characters on the Horde side (all quests) and made each to ~lvl50. He did this in under the year he played the game. Just depends on how fast you do it.

Big difference between level 50 and level 60. There is so much more to the game than just getting to the level cap. I've been at 70 for about a month and a half now and there are things from the level 60 raids that I still want to do.

After playing WoW for just over 2 years, I quit for a reason unlike most others. I actually quit because I was playing too much. It wasn't uncommon for me to log more than 100 hours per week. This was before Burning Crusade. I had 4 level 60's, all of which had full sets of epic gear from the various 40-man raid instances.
WoW is a fun game, and I can see why over 7 million (more?) people play it. There's a good variety of content for people from all walks of gaming. I personally loved the PVE aspect, but the lack of good solo content was a major limiting factor for me. The PVP was alright, but not on par with that of Lineage 2 or Eve Online.
I'm anxious to try Burning Crusade for the new content, but reluctant to play it at all because of my addiction problems.
Back to the topic at hand...
If Blizzard ever made a Starcraft MMO, I'm confident I'd shatter my record of 116 hours of WoW in one week. Starcraft has been a mainstay LAN game for me and my friends since the day it was released. Even if it's not an MMO, a new Starcraft or Diablo would be a welcome addition to Blizzard's already powerful game arsenal.

Yeah, I hear you about playing too much. I know that if I didn't have so many things going on right now that I would log many more hours than I do now. That being said, I sure do like being 70 and getting ready to hit up some 25-mans.
If Blizz comes out with a Starcraft-based MMO, I'll probably do the same thing that I did with WoW, and that is wait a while to start playing to see what everyone really thinks about it and whether or not it is worth my money to pay a monthly fee. Maybe they will give you a discount for having a subscription to both??? Riiiiiight.
