Excerpt: "It seems as though many manufacturers, possibly acting out of market uncertainty, have jumped onboard the HTPS bandwagon with a product entry of their own. Some have been well suited for the Home Theater environment, while others have managed to make themselves appear out of place in any environment. It seems a relief then that some of the biggest names in the industy decided to jump in with their own ideas. One of the largest names in the business has offered the public a very suitable solution for HTPC enthusiasts: abit Computer Corporation."

Dude, i would use this as a main PC in a toaster case! It has alot of features not found on regular mobos like optical out.

EDIT, upon review looking, nvm.

In your review you compare this board to an Intel based system with a bloody 8800 GTX... that's apples and oranges. Why you would compare this board to a system based on the Intel platform is beyond me. To be fair you should have at the LEAST tested your 8800 GTX with the NF-M2 nView on your graphics benchmarks. Then we would at the least have a somewhat fair comparison regarding graphics performance. It's well known the new Intel platform outperforms AMDs AM2. The best comparison would be to compare it to an AM2 ATX system using the NF4 chipset or NF570-590 and for graphics bench compare using 8800 GTX in each system. We all know that onboard video is horrible regarding 3D APIs like DX and openGL... that's a no brainer... To end this rant I really have to say it's a very poor review. Both the review methodology comparing a board of this nature to a totally different platform like Intel's latest and also using graphics bench element comparing 6150 video performance to 8800GTX is simply RETARDED. Horrible review... totally useless benchmarking methodology... ugg

Hi and welcome to Bjorn3D!

Thanks for your comments about the review.

Now - I might have missunderstood something but from the review it looks like Olin is comparing both motherboards with a 8800GTx in them. So the on-board video is not used for any tests.

Olin decided to test this motherboard just in PCMark05 since his spin was to see how this would work in a HTPC. While we would want to be able to have a bunch of motherboards to compare with unfortunately we have to go with what we can get hold of.

The comparison in my view isn't that bad. The CPu's both run at the same GHz making it an interesting comparison between CPU's They also are using the same memory, same audio and the same video hardware. And yet the performance difference is really high.

We will of course note your suggestions for future reviews. Maybe we should have been much clearer of the hTPC aspect of the review.

Test Systems
abit NF-M2 nView

Motherboard: ABIT NF-M2 nView (Nvidia® GF6150/NF430 chipsets)
Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+ 2.0GHz operating at 2.2 GHz (220 MHz FSB)

Motherboard: ABIT AB9 Pro v1.5 BIOS (Intel 965 chipset)
Processor: Intel E6600 Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz operating at 3.0 GHz (334 MHz FSB)

I have Intel but 2.2 AMD vs 3.0 Intel, come on. Why did he oc the 6600???

Stock 2.2 vs AMD co'd to 2.2 would have been fair.

Actually I don't see how you can compare the NF-M2/3800+ to the AN9/6600 which is 2.3 times more expensive...
I would understand taking a processor competing in the same price range : 5400+ (2.8 GHz) + 800Mhz from OC=3,6GHz, and then comparing them...
...not very fair in my opinion.

lol ! I got 3331 in PCMark05 with this weaker system:
Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 2000 MHz (3800+)
Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 6150
System Memory 2x512 DDR2 UMAX 667MHz
Harddisk Hitachi Deskstar 160 GB 5400rpm SATA
