VR-Zone has learned about some new details on 80nm R600 today and there will be 2 SKUs at launch; XTX and XT. There will be 2 versions of R600XTX; one is for OEM/SI and the other for retail. Both feature 1GB DDR4 memories on board but the OEM version is 12.4" long to be exact and the retail is 9.5" long. The above picture shows a 12.4" OEM version. The power consumption of the card is huge at 270W for 12" version and 240W for 9.5" version. As for R600XT, it will have 512MB of GDDR3 memories onboard, 9.5" long and consumes 240W of power. Lastly, there is a cheaper R600XL SKU to be launched at a later date.

Cards are getting too big when they need built in carrying handles.

Reminds me of the ancient full length ISA cards that needed the bracket in the front of the case to help hold them in.

Atleast the retail version is only 9.5" while the OEM, as in the above pic, is 12.4".

And talk about a power consumption

Good god... well at least it looks like you're getting your $'s worth.

XJNine, you are likely very right... since that specific one is an OEM version it's likely for them to attach or brace with their systems during shipping!

Does anyone know of the MSRP's yet?

I also found this when googling for it... As I am sure y'all would agree, I would very much like to know what silicon "spin" the Retail and the OEM R600 XTX models are. According to the below article, spin "a15" is capable of 1ghz core clock, which bring into question an even higher "R680" ;)

The existing revision r600 makes possible for graphic core to operate at frequency 750 MHz in composition Of video card radeon x2800 XTX with memory type GDDR-4 (volume of 512 mb. and 1 Gb), and at the frequency of 600 MHz in the composition video card Of radeon x2800 XT with memory type GDDR- E. This differs somehow from the previous information about the modifications Of r600, which British sources proposed, but also Singapore associates warn that data are not final.

Thus, elder video card series radeon x2800 can operate at frequencies 750/2200 MHz, the following on status video card can have frequencies 600/1800 MHz. The brandwidth of memory in both cases will be 512 bits.

Associates report that the freshest revision r600 on the name a15 makes possible for video chip to operate at the frequency of 1 GHz; however,it was not communicated about the prospects for the appearance of such video card on the market . Possibly, this frequency of video card will master new high end card by name r680, which can remain in 80 nm chip. It was previously assumed that R680 will be released on 65 nm technical process.

Last paragraph is the attention getter, full article is here: http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-1351-view-r600-x2800-xtx-and-xt.html (http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-1351-view-r600-x2800-xtx-and-xt.html)

I agree with the size. I would say that they have to come out with something that would lower the size of these cars. I am preaty sure it is possible.

Wouldn't fit in mine either.
Its ridiculous.
Though the retail will be smaller wich is good news but still big.

It would fit in my micro-ATX ;-) (The bottom of the case is a huge empty space, while the top is all cramped together)

For what it's worth. Back in the bad old days, cards had to be that big. It wasn't a capricious decision to standardize on that particular length. I have several 12 inch cards, they are literally crammed to capacity with various chips, caps, et al. One in particular is absolutely flush with DIP chips and all it is is a serial interface card. (Of course if they sucked down 250W of power, any self-respecting engineer would be to embarrassed to release them to market.)

With 120W PSUs especially. There was just one single fan in these huge and heavy PCs back then ;)
