Excerpt: "In a continuation from the featured GeForce 8800 series product launch covered by Bjorn3d.com (http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1000), NVIDIA has added some new spice to the plate with their introduction of a new value-priced GeForce 8800 GTS video card featuring a 320MB video frame buffer. Built on the exact same high performance platform as the previous 640MB version, this new edition to the family offers all of the same great performance at almost half the cost."

With this card and say a 640MB version, will the impact between running crysis at 1440x900 be huge? or hardly noticable?

Hardly noticable from what I've read, the 640 is better at high rez big screens...........1600x1200 or better.

It's tough to say since no one can predict how Crysis will react, it depends on how memory intensive they design the game to be. Games like Quake4 offer a Ultra Mode where they use uncompressed textures and such, which obviously would require all the RAM they can get. On the flipside, newer games like Oblivion and Rainbow Six Vegas don't even care at 1920x1200 resolutions.

For 1440x900 only, I'd go out on a limb to say the difference you'd see would be fairly minimal. There will very likely be a noticeable difference if you use high AA modes however.

320MB gets left in the dust at higher reslutions when AA is enabled but it is fine without AA. It isn't much slower than its 640MB brother.

Considering that I used 1600x1200 resolutions with AA and AF maxed, and even then the differences were somewhat small, I think it is safe to say you won't see any real difference at 1440x900.

Maybe only when and if the new DX10 games hit the market...............;) Do some shopping around, there are 640 versions around for the same price as the 320's. So why pay more money for less.
