my pentium 3 cardboard extravaganza!!!

here is my new download box/lo-tech gaming pc (because its situated in the basement where we smoke *ahem* cigarettes)

I'll giva ya the specs:
pentium 3 866
asus motherboard, cuv4x-c be the model name
256mhz pc-133 ( going to break a 20 next week and buy another 512:wink: )
some coolermaster cpu heatsink
now featuring a geForce 2 gts, upgraded last night from radeon 7200
Western digital 80 gigs, 2 meg buffer
and a Enermax 450w psu for longetivity (left over from build in sig, its too noisy in my room)

as we are speaking, my room mate is setting up a new router wich will handle all five of our rigs, and the odd wireless laptop that passes through...
so this box will handle all of our file-sharing needs...(also runs some z-snes, diablo 2 and crimson skies...for entertainment needs, with 2 speakers and a sub, thank you very much André)

by the way, I built this from scratch, and all it cost me was 50$ for HDD and heatsink

I over clocked the cpu to 924mhz (6.5x142)
and the vid card to 226/357 from 200/334 and only got a measly 3567 3dmark01 scores, while the rig in my sig got a a 33452 (dont compare apples and oranges, I know...)

like I said, this rig is set up in a basement with no heating whatsoever (I am surrounded by concrete as I write this...)
so my temps are ice cold. I smoked some reefer while lighting this rig up for the first time and I thought speedfan was playing tricks on me at first
but I damn well stuck a probe on it and it idles at 22 degrees Celsius, stock at 866Mhz
I also enjoy seeing my cardboard box and plan on adding a seran-wrap window casemod:jawdrop: .

You don't use Windows 98 SE? Everything would run much faster, and games that run on a P3 often have less compatibility problems with it.


BTW, P3s are cheap, we can build a dual-CPU 2x 1GHz box for $60.(CPUs and mobo)

yes, well lets not talk about vista.....but xp sp2 is running very well. I put in another 256 megs of ram (Found at value village:lol: for 5$...) very smooth sailing, its downloading 24/7 and I'm happy

BTW what kind of motherboard would handle 2 P3's? I'm guessing some tyan or specialty company, but the real question is, where to find this... I live in montreal area, if anybody has a hook-up, let me know....

Cardboard ftw!

The cardboard shroud I made about a year ago for the radiator (watercooling) is beginning to disintegrate because the tape is drying up.
I used white cardboard though. It like to think the color masks the reality...
