Hey I saw someone earlier on the forums talking about where to get the drivers to run SLI on a XFIRE motherboard.
I tried to google it but I always get some SLI vs Crossfire articles...
Anyways i'll keep googling but whoever was talking about it can you point me to it again :)

u think those would work for G80 cards...?

You'll have to add 4 lines in the " nv4_disp.inf " file.
------------------------------------------------------------------

1. NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0191.1 = "Your exact g80 model number(NVIDIA)"
2. NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0191.2 = "Your exact g80 model number(NVIDIA)"
3. NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0193.1 = "Your exact g80 model number(NVIDIA)"
4. NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0193.2 = "Your exact g80 model number(NVIDIA)"

I'm giving u an example below.Just put the exact model number of ur card with the company replacing the bold letters in the nv4_disp.inf file.

NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0191.1 = "WinFast PX8800 GTX TDH(NVIDIA)"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0191.2 = "WinFast PX8800 GTX TDH(NVIDIA)"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0193.1 = "WinFast PX8800 GTS TDH(NVIDIA)"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0193.2 = "WinFast PX8800 GTS TDH(NVIDIA)"

Where will u add the lines in the file ? see the below screenshot :-
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/8224/nv4dispfileeditingnt2.jpg

change those 4 lines as said b4 adding them to the file.Make a backup of the original nv4_disp.inf file before editing & edit the .inf file b4 inserting the graphics cards in ur PC.

What these lines do is,when u install that modded driver withthis edited .inf file, the driver will automatically detect ur G80(remember,u've already added ur graphics card name to the inf file)& will enable SLI coz it's already modded.

If u can't figure out the exact model number of ur GPU,then add these 2 lines to the .inf file.

NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0191.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0193.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS"

These 2 lines will provide support for all G80 cards.Please be reminded that u should edit this .inf file only if u have those Geforce 8800 cards.The previous generation cards r automatically supported by those modded drivers & no editing is required for those.

hmm... I was wondering about this...

I've been thinking of switching my main rig to my P4 Extreme setup, but I have dual BFG7900Gts, so I didn't want to loose my SLI setup.. I'll have to try this out and see what happens...

this is cool!

You can also use those drivers and Rivatuner to SLI unmatched cards.

sushrukh

But to use SLI using the G80s, the G80 entry must be present in the nv4_disp.inf file.Otherwise, those cards won't be detected.Ofcourse other cards older than the G80 will be automatically detected & let u run SLI by these modded drivers on any chipset having 2 PCI-E slots.No editing is required.

Holy mother !!!
Thanks man thats some awesome stuff !
Ima try it out if I ever get a sli setup.
I was just interested in all this but of course i'll let you know how it goes.
But im guessing if you post those 4 lines anywhere in the list at the bottom its still gonna work thats just a list of supported or regognised cards right.
So all I have to do is uninstall my previous card, drivers and all, put the other 2 bridge them with a SLI bridge, powerup the machine modify that inf file putting the model number of my card so its recognised and the hit the install and it should install it with support for SLI...
Would be nice to see a SLI setup on a Asus commando board.
One thing though is that running SLI like this is fun and all but I would always get the drivers late since they need to be moded unless I knew how to mod new drivers myself :p
Like SLI is not supported for DX10 (maybe its fixed now I dunno)...

The steps 4 easy understanding :--
------------------------------------------------------
1. First dwld the Modded driver file from here:-

http://www.overclock247.com/pyr0/Intel%20SLi/85.96_mod.rar

2.Don't install it now.After dwlding, extract or unrar the files to a new folder.

3. Locate the nv4_disp.inf file(Follow the screenshot).Make a backup of this file to some safe place.

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/7831/97174021hh2.jpg

4. Follow the screenshot & add the two G80 entries after the 7900GT entry as shown in my screenshot
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://img476.imageshack.us/img476/5885/55613906gf3.jpg

5.Now,follow the below screenshot & enter those two lines as shown in the picture :-

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/3187/37810935dw9.jpg

6.Now,save the inf file.

7.Uninstall ur previous driver but don't install the modded driver.

8.Shutdown the PC & insert ur G80s.

9.Start ur PC.Windows should automatically detect a new hardware or hardwares to be precise.

10.When the new hardware found screen appears install the cards by pointing this folder where u've extracted the modded driver & the edited inf file.Windows should detect the G80s now.If it don't,then follow the next step.

11.Go to the device manager.you will see yellow icons for the undetected G80s.Right click --> update driver --> No,not this time --> Next --> choose the advanced or the lower option --> Dont search, i'll choose --> next --> Now, see if there is any entry while the checkbox is on.If there is any entry(like my 6200 shown in the picture;don't laugh please), choose that & press next.It will install the driver.If the space is blank,then uncheck the checkbox saying " show compatible hardware ".

http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/2/40589741nj5.jpg

12.Now u'll have a huge list of graphics cards.Scroll down untill u'll find ur Geforce GTX or GTS card model.

Those two entries will be :-
----------------------------------------------

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

13.Now,if u have GTX,then choose the GTX entry & if u have the GTS model,then choose the GTS entry.By choosing,i mean left clicking on the entry & press next.

13.A message may be shown like :-
----------------------------------------------------

http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/9789/29622224du3.png

Accept the message.Now restart ur machine & enter ur Nvidia control panel & see if SLI is enabled.

It may not work in 100% cases but u can atleast try it coz i've successfully tried it in two of my friend's PC.Btw, which G80 cards r u using ? GTX or GTS ?

Holy mother !!!
But im guessing if you post those 4 lines anywhere in the list at the bottom its still gonna work thats just a list of supported or regognised cards right.

U can't put those lines under any other header coz there are some segments in the inf file like [NVIDIA.Mfg],[ControlFlags],; Localizable Strings etc.So, you will have to put those lines in their respective headers so that they can work in conjunction with their header name.But under that specific headers,u can put the lines anywhere u want.

Don't copy & paste the lines from my previous post.I've tried several times by writing those lines here but bj3D script isn't accepting the correct spaces b2in the characters.So, just see at the screenshots & write down the 4 values & insert them under the correct headers written below.

1. Remember, the first two G80 entries as shown in the pic have to be in the following header.You can place them anywhere but they have to be under this header :-
-------------------------------------------------------------------

; Localizable Strings
NVIDIA = "NVIDIA"

2.You have to place the 2nd set of two G80 entries under the header of the following.Again u can place them anywhere but they have to be under this header :-
------------------------------------------------------------------------

[NVIDIA.Mfg]

I've just placed them after the Geforce 7 series so that i can remember it easily.

Alright.
No i know not anywhere in the inf file but i meant in the geforce list of cards.
Anyways I understand myself :p
Alright thanks for the detailed instructions :)

Hi, parbados, welcome to Bj3D community.Enjoy ur stay here & do keep posting.

Answer to ur question :- Yes, u can buy another 7600GS card to run SLI. You'll need to download a special driver package which will let u use SLI on ur MSI board.

You can download the driver from here :-

Yep, PP u r right.This whole thread is just about that but as he said that he's a noob to all this, maybe he didn't understand our discussions earlier or maybe he hasn't read the whole thread.No, problem, i've already answered him.That should clear his confusion.

Ill let you know if those 2 XFX GTS ima receive will work in SLI with my commando motherboard.
Ill post some benchies also later on.

If the Commando doesn't include a SLi bridge adapter, make sure to get one as you'll notice a difference when benchmarking.

Schwarz needs to buy it from somewhere else coz Commando can't include SLI Bridge Adapter as it's not an SLI mobo.

I already have a SLI bridge coming from a Asus Crosshair or a Asus 8800GTX from a friend.
He owned me 20 bucks for a monitor I sold him when I got my 19 inch LCD wide.
I was going to buy it from ebay and yesterday he was doing some cleaning of his apartement and I helped him a bit, saw the SLI bridge and told him well since you own me 20 bucks I guess we could make a deal :p
He didn't really care about it either since it was lost somewhere under his desk lol.
Anyways like I said I already have a SLI bridge so i'll let you know what it looks like when I bench them :)

Thread digger. :icon_tiphat: No just kidding Sada. :grin: Yeah it's extremely old now & i think, no modding SLI driver for Geforce 8 & 9 series yet.I myself used two Asus EN7600GT cards in my previous MSI 975x mobo & SLI worked quite well after installing the modded driver.

Sadasius
05-06-2008, 05:50 PM
Yeah it's too bad. I would have bought 3 9800GTX's and SLi'd them on my mobo with watercooling. That would be one hell of a setup that's for sure. I did some checking around and did not find anything either. Guess this will be just a thing of the past then. Oh well!;-)

Yeah found this thread at the bottom of the other crossfire topic I started under 'Similar Threads'. Started to read it and made me wonder if it was ever attempted again.

Maybe you can try this with 2 9000 cards using the oldest forceware that supports them.

Never worked for me.
I had started this thread when I won the 2 8800GTS on this very site.
I used to work on 7 series and so i thoguht I could run the 2 8800GTS on my commando.
Sadly to this day I dont know of anything that works.
Thats why I bought a striker extreme...
BTW I do have another striker extreme for sale for 130 !! hell of a deal !
