Not much to see, but interesting to note nonetheless. Click the link for both images. http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20070311224529.html (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20070311224529.html)
The exact specifications of the GeForce 8600 GTS and GT are unclear, but it is likely that the difference between the two will be clock-speed and the amount of memory onboard. The Asian web-site claims that the GTS will be equipped with 256MB or 512MB of 2.0GHz memory and 675MHz graphics processing unit (GPU), while the model GT will have 128MB or 256MB of 1.4GHz memory and 540MHz GPU. Power consumption of the latter will be in the range of 75W, while the former will require additional power connector.

Some are still saying the 8600 series will still pwn for a cheap price. Lets hope they are right.

Before you spend your life savings on a new 8800 GTX video card, you may want to wait for Nvidia's new midrange 8600 cards, which are rumored to be out really soon. The 8600 GT, which will have a 350MHz core and come with 256MB of RAM, will go for about $150. Other cards like the high mid-range 8600 Ultra and the entry-level 8300 GS will go for $179 and $79 each.
* 8600 Ultra: 64 SP, core 500 MHz, memory 1400 MHz, 512 MB, 256-bit, $179
* 8600 GT: 48 SP, core 350 MHz, memory 1200 MHz, 256 MB, 128-bit, $149
* 8300 GT: 32 SP, core 500 MHz, memory 1200 MHz, 256 MB, 128-bit, $99
* 8300 GS: 24 SP, core 500 MHz, memory 1000 MHz, 256 MB, 128-bit, $79

Haha, I am waiting for the 8600 Ultra. If all of the specs I've read on places like Guru3d are true, and it really does sell around 179, I am so SLIing them. Yeah, they're not as good as the 8800, but doing the 8600 Ultra in an SLI should beat a single 8800 by far.

thats one of the most stupid things i have heard, you should never, ever buy 2 cards to SLI in my books, just buy one monster...

Why do you say that?

I'm pretty sure the 8600 Ultra will equate beteen a 7900GS and a 7950GT. But due to the 128bit wide bus I think it's safe to say they will not surpass a 320mb 8800GTS, and not come close to the 640mb 8800GTS.
Since DX10 will bring much lower driver overhead and increase efficiency, it should help these 128bit limited cards though.

I might have to shoot for one of the ultras for my upcoing C2D rig if I can't round up the cash for a 8800GTS 320 that is.......;)

Even if it DOES have a 128-bit bus im thinking the GPU alone will be alot better and alot more efficient. Might make it go over the 7950 in performance and not only that they have decent clocks too. Food for thought.

I thought nVidia dropped the 8600Ultra instead for the 8600GTS?
The 128bit memory bus will hurt the bandwidth of the "8600 Ultra" which in turn will affect its performance. The "8600 Ultra" should run along the lines of the 7900GT/7950GT since it has the same bandwidth of the 7950GT based on the posted specs (http://www.bjorn3d.com/forum/showpost.php?p=70547&postcount=3).

In dx9 performance which is actualy exelent for a midrange card tbh.

That and you get DX10 and SM4.0.

Eh, whatever top of the line 8600 card is what I meant, whether it be GTS or Ultra. I was probably thinking of the 8800GTX Ultra at the time... ;)
