I was bored and was looking at my mobo box and it says my onboard can support 24-bit 96khz audio. Is this true? And if so how can i test it to make sure?

Sure, 24/96 8-channel codecs are easy to find and cheap.

According to the tests my onboard can support up to 24bit 192khz. Hmmm, who needs an X-FI?

Well I do, because I want recordings that don't have fan motor buzz and data stream sounds in the input's background, and I need ASIO. 6-channel input with the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum is also nice.

Hey PP,
I just looked and your mobo has an AC'97 Realtek ALC850, just like mine. It's a 20bit/48kHz codec I think(Not 24/192). (It will accept higher input streams, but down sample them) The data noise has more chances to be present at very high gains, but it's there.
And, yes, with an external sound card, there's no problem.

Or make them cover the cost of buying a good sound card at least equivalent to what they said you should have by claiming you bought the M/B thinking you could get that quality but if you had of known you would have gotten cheaper one and a separate soundcard ;)
