" The 8600GTS is about to come upon us. It turned out to be a huge surprise for the overclockers... 1GHz Core with just air-cooling!
With 1.5v VGPU and 2.4v Memory, I broke 7K 3D Mark 2006 and 15K 3D Mark 2005, hitting well above 900MHz Core and 1200MHz Memory! CPU is X6800 lightly overclocked at 3.2GHz."

nice, but with a voltmod. But I'm a little sceptic about OC new stuff, everything seems to OC so much it seems like you are buying one class higher for the same money, but when actually get one from the shelves things are much much diferent.

Well, my understanding is that the last couple lines in the review gave it away. They only did these volt mods because the card arrived with damaged components, so they were probably told to destroy it or whatever as another would be sent for review purposes. They subjected that card to 1.7v, I'm sure it'd sit up and sing Hail Marys if they had wanted it to at those kind of voltages.

1.7v is a heck of a lot of Volts for any of todays video cards. ..........nice numbers though.

Thats nice now i just hope they all can oc like that. I remember reading about it somewhere else but i didn't know about the volt mod. When it comes to a GPU i don't like to mess with the voltage thats to much money for me to risk but i am happy to do it with an amd cpu i already killed one there so cheap to replace. It also happened the one i killed had the lightest oc of all i never even upped the voltage and was always at room temp.

WITHOUT vCore mods:
At default voltage you can expect around 800MHz Core and 1160MHz Memory.

Nice numbers/results, but 1.7V is waaay too much for me. Too much of a risk with the card to me... I'd like to get more bang for the buck just like anyone, but not at the risk of frying said card :?
