Hey all. After week searching for a similar problem to mine that actually has an answer i gave up and decided to post myself. About 3 months ago i built a new computer which has integrated SoundMax HD audio with spdif optical and coaxial outputs. I then connected my computer to my Jamo pj dvd home theatre surround system via optical cable.

Well, its horrible. After hours not knowing why every thing was really really crackly and loud clicks whenever audio tried playing, i found the dts interactive button and turned that on in the soundmax preferences tab. Solved my problems. Or so i thought. Now i find that when playing music from wmp etc, the sound quality is great. Except for when i skip songs, or a windows messenger alert comes up or other small things like that, i get the loud clicks again. I have updated to most recent soundmax drivers but to no avail. And on top of this it has about a 1 second latency/delay with it which is unnaceptable for my uses of gaming and watching digital Tv through my pci tuner. When i turn both dts interactive and dts neo off and use digital i get audio of pretty poor quality and no subwoofer channel but there is no delay in the sound. I have it connected jut via a 3.5mm jack to 2 rca plugs at moment but this also is unnaceptable because no surround sound and no subwoofer channel.

Any Thoughts? Sorry bout long post but from reading others, it might save some posts clarifying everything.

My system is:
E6700
ocz Gold 800mhz ddr2 2X1gb ram
asus p5n32 sli premium wifi ed.
xfx 7900gt extreme (factory overclocked)
avermedia dvbt 777 (or something)
Windows xp Pro SP2
Connected to Jamo PJ HCS 3500-P DVD home theatre System,

Please, any help is better than none! :)

Westy.

This may be a stretch but give it a try.

Go in a up you virtual memory to the max and make the min the same size. This has helped others in the past with sound issues as the machine does tend to use virtual memory in sound playback.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunatly i can't test it for another 2 weeks as i've just come home from uni for the hollidays (in aus) and left the dvd system at my house at uni and only bought my computer back with me, and stupidly left 2 power cords and 1 dvi cord lying on my bed, so gotta wait for them to get a lift here lol. Any other suggestions in the meantime will be great, ill try em all when i can.

Well will you look at that, i get a nice email from Bjorn3d telling me happy birthday :) wheres my free gift ;) Anyhow back to my question. My VirtRam is set at custom 2gb at moment. Should i tell the system to control it automatically or should i set the max and min to the max? If i do that does it decrese my Hdd storage space or does the max for the VirtRam just come down as i fill up more space on hdd? If that makes sense.
Thanks

Well im back at my house ready for another term of uni :frown:

I tried setting my Virt Ram at about 10Gb, but still no help.

Im thinking, should i just buy a sound card with good optical spdif out? What i am concerned about is that maybe it is my dvd player that has the latency, but considering its designed for a home theatre system it would seem a lil stupid to include it if its got lag, so im leaning towards the soundMax.

Suggestions welcome on what i should do, and on what sound cards are good, not looking to spend any more than $150 - $200 Au (approx 100-140US, going at about 70cAU for ever 1 US dollar)

I would set both to the same size like 2GB.

The virtual memory takes space from your HD so yes your HD will have less space but who can't spare 2GBs of HD space these days?
