What on earth? Under 500 to start, and not a single card within the 201-450 bracket. If these prices are true, nVidia is going to have a nightmare... R600 will be priced under the 8800GTX, and since the 8800 Ultra will be launched to compete with R600, they have some pricing problems to work out since they can't sell the Ultra for less than the GTX, which is already $100 to high...

I know what I'll be getting if these prices are correct...........;)

If these are true nVidia might have their hands full :jawdrop:

What the hell ? :ahhhhh: I was thinkin' that the R600 will be priced higher than the GTX but if these pricing r correct, the " n " guyz will be knocked down by the AMD.Though i have in my mind that ATI wouldn't have released these cards in those prices if AMD wouldn't have controlled them.Nvidia was planning to prepare a card under $100, but AMD have done that b4 them (if these r correct obviously).

Maybe the FTC and DOJ looking into their finances had a bit of something to do with the lower prices..........we can only hope that this is a new trend.........;)

That wouldn't be competitive and the smartest move for AMD/ATi's if they did that.

Well, I'm not going to believe anymore prices until these things launch!!! So much contradictory info is already out there especially on prices. AMD needs the cash badly right now, and really they can market the GPU higher than GTX if they wanted since the performance is there! Not to mention full driver support.
R600 going for $499 just sounds to good to be true. Not only is it the most powerful GPU, but it will come with onboard Realteak sound for HDMI purposes. Someone already caught a pic of Realtek's driver page.

How can you know if the performance is there if it isn't out?
Its like the saying goes, nothing is written in gold until its out.
The originators said they have confirmed those prices but who knows as anything you read could be BS.

The best way to make money fast is to offer a quality product at a price that's to good to pass up and sell the hell out of them, that's fast money..............;)

That is very true. But I can't help wondering... it is mostly ATI fans, diehards, and a few others that have not already bought G80 cards, no? Nvidia has sold more than a few of these cards, so the potential market has been satuated to some degree...
Then again, maybe that is ATI's goal. Since more than a few people own a G80 card, if they sell R600 for that much less, people will be tempted to upgrade? Gotta love economics... really wonder what their #1 reason is though.

R600 will have atleast some more strength over the GTX coz Nvidia has said that they'll launch the 8800 Ultra to encounter the R600.If GTX is better than the R600,then why Nvidia will need to bring their 8800 Ultra to compete against the R600 ?

I never said the R600 is gonna be slower and who said the 8800GTX would be faster than the R600? Not me. All I said was you can't judge the performance of something that isn't even out yet.
AMD/ATi shouldn't be worried about the 8800Ultra, they should be worried more when the 8950GX is out.
nVidia wants to spoil AMD/ATi's release of the R600 with the 8800Ultra and they want to stay on top. Its just like the 7800/7900 and X1800/X1900 battle.

It is about time these cards come to the market, we've been waiting for ages. These prices make perfect sense to me and are exactly where I want them. I think they only seem so low cause 8800's were the only product on the market, ati had nothing to compare, and could afford to charge a hefty premium (although they do perform good for the price).
I really think 500$ is a perfect limit for top end cards, the same goes for processors. I wouldn't spend more than 250$ for either of them, and I want a good product in that sweet-spot price range.

Wow... like many others, if these price points turn out to be the real deal, I am all for it! Price wars! ;) :) The consumer wins :P
Seriously though, competition is good for business, and price drops are always welcome by the consumer.

Those prices look very acceptable.
I can't believe the 8800gtx was $750+, and still is on more than a few sites.
Thats alot of money for a computer part, although it is a major one.
