Since you've already got a 7950GT I'd wait until the games actually come out that you want to play before you make a decision on a new card. Even though you won't be able to play them in DX10 you may still get decent framerates with your current card. Even if you don't you'll want to see how the current DX10 cards stack up with the new games before you plop down a few hundred bucks on one.

Waiting makes sense. Unless you want to have a card NOW. I am really thinking you should go with the 640 card if you are going to buy now.
The thing is the texture maps that are going into that frame buffer are going to always get bigger with more graphically intense games coming out.
Something to think about.

Ya, 7950Gt is still a powerful card & u should wait & see how the AMD R6xx & Nvidia's G84/G90 series perform. Then u'll be able to decide which one is to go for.

Like the other guys said, I think it'll be better to wait a little, till more (or to be more accurate, at least one) games that will support DX10 will be available so you'll take advantage of the DX10 card! ;-)
Of course, there are some of us that want the latest video card right on the spot, like me  . But honestly, I think I was a bit too rush when I bought my Leadtek 8800GTX, as I really don't take any advantage with this card, especially not with my current setup, which I really hope is gonna change pretty soon.
And yeah, if you do decide to buy, now or after you wait a bit, I would definitely go for the 640MB version of the 8800GTS.
GOOD LUCK :icon_tiphat:

You already have a good card that performs so I would wait since there are no DX10 games.

DX10 is designed to cut out a good deal of overhead and make things generally more efficient, so theoretically not as much resources would be needed to do the same level of work.
Nobody can really say how Crysis or other future games will play unless the developer has released benches or anything. The best thing to do is to wait until the game arrives and everyone benches it first, only then will ya know if you need more RAM or just a powerful core for it. :)

lol, thanks, ill wait gonna get a new case, ill post a question in the general hardware bit about that.
Yeh i hope i dont have to buy a new anything except a gfx card, maybe next year ill be moving to quad core when i have enough money for a new mobo and a quad core, but for now my core2 should be enough lol... And as for RAM i just bought another gb taking me to 2 gb, ill be upgrading to four in summer.
Thanks again guys.

Yea dude i have that same card and 3gig DDR400 and an X2 4800+ and im just gonna wait for the second gen of DX10 cards to come. No sense to having one now when its not going to be used anytime soon. Not only that, it will give plenty of time for prices to drop too.
