AMD has published price cuts for its desktop processor range with prices falling up to US$200 for high-end Athlon 64 FX-70 series processors.
Several products have also been discontinued including the socket AM2-based Athlon 64 FX-64, and the socket 745-based Sempron 3400+ and 3000+.
Under the newly published list, socket 745 has been phased-out, while only three socket 939 units remain suggesting that this architecture will also be discontinued soon. The majority of AMD's desktop lineup is now composed of socket AM2-based CPUs, while the high-end FX range CPUs are Socket F (1207FX).

Wow! Those are some incredible prices.

Looks like the prices are already hitting the market too: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103773

How does the Amd X2 6000+ compare with the E6600?

Their around the same price correct?

The E6600 is about $60 more. It's a bit faster than the X2 6000+ at stock speeds, not by much though. The big difference is in overclocking. My E6600 comes at 2.4ghz stock but I managed to OC mine to 3.6ghz. There's no way you'd get that kind of overclock from the X2 6000+. Once you overclock the E6600 really becomes worth the money if you're building a new system. If you already have an AM2 compatible motherboard the X2 6000+ is a great deal.

Or if you're building a system for a AMD fanboy that will not switch to Intel..............;)

Or for somebody that will not overclock at all.
Until Intel drops their prices AMD is the winner for that crowd. In the last couple of months I've recommended an AMD setup for all my friends that were on a tight budget since none of them had any desire to overclock and were not building gaming rigs. You couldn't get a quality dual core intel for 100€ a month ago, and you could get an AMD one.
The difference now is even bigger, at my local store I can get x2 4600 for 134€ and e4300 for 167€, at stock x2 4600 surely outperforms e4300 and at a lower price.
I will probably buy e4300 when its price comes down a bit and upgrade to quad in the winter, so I'm not a fanboy of either company I just like AMD a bit more than Intel and I always explore all my options at that particular moment, even at the cost of being called a fanboy

Intel price cuts come on the 22 of April, even if you want a budget system, it's more than worth the wait and then you'll get the best price along with the best performance. And there's also a little thing of being a little bit more future proof, AMD will be switching scokets again soon from what I've read where Intel will be keeping the 775 socket through at least the quad cores.
I will admit that there isn't a big differance in performance on the low end of the food chain, but it's still enough to make me pick Intel as long as prices are close, and I've been a AMD user for years and years, AMD just doesn't have anything going for it right now, and even less on the top end.

Too little, too late for this generation of AMD CPU's.... gotta clean out the "old" stock before launching the new CPU ;)

Yea thats very true.

My next computer, will probably be a laptop.

Or ill prolly just end up getting a Quad. I can't belive that dual's used to be looked as "new" and not all games supported dual core. Now everybody is making the swap to Quad. And very soon Dual Quad (w/e u call it lol), and its scary for me! Single Core ftw!

Socket 745 or socket 754 ?

Looks like the source made a mistake in the socket details; obviously it should be S754 and not S745.

And what's your point, tell the folks that wrote the article......;) I just copied and pasted the thing, I'm not the editor and could care less about the typos..........:)

I am also waiting for Intel price cuts, but all my friends that i mentioned couldn't or didn't want. I did warn them that it doesn't make any sense to buy at that time they didn't care or really needed to buy then.
If somebody comes to me and says I have to buy a new PC TODAY or THIS week, anyway before intel price cuts, and they don't want to wait another week I will still recommend AMD to them. Their prices can't be beat for the next week or so.
Yes AMD will bring in am2+ socket but am2+ processors will work with am2 mobos as well am3 processors will, so it is pretty future proof to me, you will only lose some performance, we don't know how much yet.
And there is a really big chance that nexgen intel chips will require a new mobo, the same as any new generation does. How many people had to buy a new mobo for core2 even if it was lga775 one. At least with AMD ANY am2 chip works with any am2 mobo.

Ive built 3 using an amd setup for the exact same reason. Even though i made some money off of those 3 i am still flat broke i think i have a hole in my pocket or something. Personally i am waiting for intels price drops because i need to OC until the heat from my cpu can sustain nuclear fission.

I've also built many systems & they are all AMD PCs coz i love AMD's price to performance ratio & if Intel doesn't act now.AMD will steal some of the market share from them for sure.AMD has made huge drops already, specially to the X2 6000.So, Intel now it's your turn.

Those are some nice price cuts from intel it will do me good to wait just a tiny bit longer. It looks like the e4300 would be nice and then OC the heck out of it.

I am aiming to either the E4300 or E4400.

Exactly my plan. Specially considering Q3 price cuts that will push quadcore processors to the mainstream. I plan to go cheap now an in Q3 BAM! I'm not entirely sure though whether to get a cheap quad or a high end core duo, considering that I mainly use my pc for gaming. Coincidently that is the approximate time that Crysis should get released. Although a better graphics card should benefit me more than a better proc.

Think of it this way; the speed war is over and the number of cores is the next battle.
