R600XT Scores 12K in 3DMark06

R600XT will be officially known as Radeon HD 2900 XT when it launches in May. It seems that R600XT will be available first followed the XTX. According to DailyTech, the Radeon HD 2900 series features 320 stream processors and supports 128-bit HDR rendering, 24xAA, physics processing. Other features include integrated HDMI output capabilities with 5.1 surround sound. Although the wait for R600 is unbearable but the consoling part is that R600XT stood up well against NVIDIA GeForce 8800 series. Using a Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor, R600XT scored 12K in 3DMark06, slightly better than a GeForce 8800 GTX. It is benched on the latest 8.361-RC4 drivers, quite an improvement over the older sets of drivers. The core clock of R600XT stood at 750MHz while the memory is at 820MHz. It looks all decent for a US$399 card.p>

Again take these with a grain of salt.

I was expecting more for the hot power hungry monster that it is. It was less then i expected then again it usually is less then what all the hype makes it out to be.

Both articles are referring to the $400 XT model, not the XTX. So if the 2nd highest model still tops a GTX, then that is good. :)

ATI always beats Nvidia after a while, but then Nvidia comes out with somekind of a new technology first. ATI takes their time and makes a really fast one. I still prefer Nvidia though.

GO ATI GO. I don't really know why but i prefer ATI. My first 'good' card was riva tnt2 ( I had ati mach64 before that) then I switched back to ATI, then Nvidia then ATI again (for some reason I never owned 3dfx). I hope that Ati really delivers the performance at the prices we were promised, then I won't have to switch back to nvidia, if nothing else nvidia will be forced to drop their prices. GO ATI GO.

I would think that these benchmarks should be realistic since the launch of the cards is so close

LOL, your right i should look at things more closely. Now that reminds me about the time i got a B on an exam only because i skipped an entire essay question. To this day i don't know how i did that i remember reading the question and knowing what to write but i never did. Looks like i need to pay more attention. So ATI is doinf pretty good then if you ignore all the delays.

Yea but if it tops it by like 2-10 fps, thats not much in my books for making you buying the most powerful PSU to feed that bad boy.

But the price of $399 is good considering the price of thetop end 8800 cards.

Funny how on 06 the GTX wins marginaly then on the Crysis Demo the XT wins by alot. Something funny there.

That just shows why 3DMark scores don't really mean all that much. 3DMark isn't really representitive of real games.

Which is what ive been saying for a few years now. Try telling that to most forums who only base judgement on 3dMark.

Don't forget that both nVida and ATI make 3dmark06 one of their top priorities when for fine tuning their drivers. I'm obviously biased, but my feelings are nVidia really does this the most.
