edit: sorry didn't see there is a similar collection among the daily news, a bit stupid really:redface:, even if it is not exactly the same . Sorry again.

Hope it's not a double post

this nice collection of benchmarks can be found here (it is getting updated)

NVIDIA today announced its latest DirectX 10 product offerings to serve the $129-$229 price points. The new GeForce 8600 GTS, 8600 GT and 8500 GT introduces technology previously exclusive to the high-end GeForce 8800-series to more affordable levels. NVIDIA’s new mainstream product lineup features Shader Model 4.0 support, GigaThread technology and NVIDIA’s Quantum Effects physics processing technology. The addition of NVIDIA’s Lumenex engine to the mainstream sector provides value-conscious buyers with 128-bit floating point HDR rendering and anti-aliasing levels of 16x.

All official specifications can be found here: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=6943

Check back for an up to date list of reviews:

Overall a big disappointment I'd say, even if the past benchmarks have shown similar results. ATI is my last remaining hope of buying dx10 card in this year.

In case you don't feel like going to their site (here's a copy/paste)

Even with the new drivers, it looks like the 128-bit bus hurts the 8600GTS big time but then again we haven't seen what it can do when rendering a DX10 process.

Yea that is a really big problem for me. If I'd know that these cards perform better in dx10 environment, they would be a better buy than dx9 cards. But until that can be proven they don't really bring much to the table.

They perform quite well in SLi though.

On another note, Nocutius, most if not all of the links are invalid urls.

but then you're better off simply buying a stronger card. SLI is nice if you already have one card and just stick another one in to improve performance, but otherwise its pretty useless to me, unless you go really high end.

(edit: sorry for the urls I've fixed them now, it was a clumsy copy/paste without checking them afterwards)

Its all about the price point how much money people have as not everyone can shell out $400 for a video card.

I also am one of those people. But i can find a single card that will perform similarly to the SLIed ones at roughly the same price and maybe with lower power consumption. 6600gt SLI will be almost the same as a single 7600gt, and it even costs more. You could probably find cases when the reversed applies.

Anybody have any idea what happend to the 8600ultra? Was supposed to be the midrange card with a 256-bit bus.

As far as I know that was comlpetely rumor Mguire, sorry. There may be one at a later date though, who knows.

I would strongly advise against 8600 SLI... for the $300+ required to buy two cards you can buy a good 8800GTS and outperform them.
