is it good for oc?

Yes, it also has overclocking abilities. In many ways it mimics its big brother the 680i LT SLI board with the exception of the second PCI-E x16 slot.

Either is good but it depends if you want SLi or not.

Naming convention question: why would you call it an Ultra if it has less features than other models in the same family???
Hearing Ultra, I would expect all the features of the other models, plus a few more and/or better versions of the existing ones.
That's the connotation that comes to mind when I hear Ultra. Ultra = better.
Just curious.

Great to hear...I think this motherboard will be the one I finally get. The final lineup would be a reference 650i SLI mobo, does XFX/nVidia have that in the works too...cause I might rather wait and go for that one instead.

I am not sure if we will launch the 650i SLI version. Personally if you wanted an SLI motherboard I would go with the 680i LT SLI or 680i SLI. Both of those motherboards have two true PCI-E x16 slots, while the 650i SLI split the bandwidth between the two PCI-E slots both having x8.
And to answer the question of why they refer to is as the "Ultra", to be honest they never get my input when naming anything around here :), so I am unsure.

Have these new Ultra's gone on sale yet anywhere?
While I was checking the newegg site for the ultra newegg doesnt have the full 680i XFX version for sale, just the LT version. Is the full 680i XFX not out yet also?

Thanks for the update, xfxsupport. ;-)
It looks like a well-budgeted mobo and I might take this one into consideration when I'll buy my 650i mobo  (which is gonna happen in a week or two...or at least I hope so), as I'm pretty sure I won't use SLI, at least not in the near future...;-)
BTW, I'm still waiting for your list of retailers and/or PC shops in Hong-Kong/China that sell the XFX 680i/680i-LT/650i/650i-Ultra.
My business trip has been delayed over and over again, but eventually I'll be going there and I really to grab myself one of your boards there...;-)

Still dont see it anywhere...was thinkin about this mobo with the recent price drop for the intel core 2 chips.
How long from announcement to hard launch is usual for XFX?

Couple quick questions XFXSUPPORT.
I paired up this board with an e6420. Pretty nice preliminary OC so far. Got her up to 3.2 with 1.35v to the CPU
and 1.3 to the FSB and to the NB
Can't seem to push it past the 400MHZ mark. Can you suggest anything?
(Running in unlinked mode)
Also, the ntune utility does not report back an temps on my system only my CPU and VGA. Additionally it says "NOT REPORTED" for any of the voltages. i.e. CPU, FSB, NB, etc. Not sure if its the board or Nvidia. Have you seen this before?
Lastly, and I am just trying all angles. When I open up CPU-z the memory tab is empty. Under the SPD tab it correctly lists the timings of the memory. (G-Skill F2-6400CL4D-2GBHK). The board does not recognize my memory it seems?
I am very happy with this board so far and am enjoying it. I just want to iron out some of these niggles. Thanks for your thoughts. :icon_tiphat:

I don't think the board does much for overclocking the RAM. DDR 800 is all I think it will do.
Not sure on how far up the FSB will go.

Bio-Hazard, good call I needed a new version of CPU-z. thank you.
Now I am down to the ntune issues and best methods for OC the CPU. Not gonna oc the memory much if at all.

Nothing is better than overclocking in the BIOS.
Bio-Hazard

Just OC through the Bios and set the memory to manual (unlinked) and the memor will stay at spec (or lightly below depending on divider). That lets you play with the CPU indepentant of the memory..................;)
Before you begin overclocking your system, you must first disable a few features
that would prevent your system from reaching its maximum potential. More
specifically, the following BIOS settings must be disabled:
CPU Thermal Control
C1E Enhance Halt State
Intel Speedstep
Some motherboards have these disabled by default, but it is always good to double check.
You must also disable the spread spectrum features of the system before we begin overclocking:
Enter the BIOS by restarting your computer and pressing DEL during POST.
Set CPU Spread Spectrum to Disable .
Set HT Spread Spectrum to Disable
Set PCIe Spread Spectrum(SPP) to Disable
Set PCIe Spread Spectrum(MCP) to Disable
Set SATA Spread Spectrum to Disable

Hey Steven, just wanted you to know that I just book-marked this post of yours. ;-) Though I know these things already, but it's always good to have a reminder...THX  I say, let's make it a "sticky"called "First Step to a Successful overclocking...

There's a nice overclocking guide put out by Nvidia for the Nvidia based 680i boards, but a lot (Most) of the info can be used of other boards as well.
I'll see if I can find the link again, it's good reading for those that are interested in OC'ing.
