a new 8800gts 320mb?
Will prices be dropping soon? or being steady +/- $50?
Cuz im getting my X2 very soon, and i wouldnt mind a nice present from the parents :)
Also, should i go for 8800gts or wait for the 8900 or 8600GTS?
www.canadacomputers.com for links, they seem to have the cheapest 8800
Edit: Just measued my case, and the max area that it would fit would be 10inches, or 25.5CM
Is the 8800GTS longer than that? would it fit/Safe ?
I really wouldnt like to downgrade to a 8600GTS

I prefer u just stick to what u have.I know ur 6800 Ultra is quite outdated but there are lot more to come our way in the coming months.Just wait for the DX10 applications or games to come so that u'll be able to make a decision that what u should go for.8600GTS is not a good performer compared to the 8800GTS & currently the most suitable deal is to go for an 8800GTS 320 MB.But, let the AMD R6xx series come.If they release their cards with those sweet prices we have heard so far, going for an AMD R6xx may prove even smarter. So, just wait n watch. If u wanna buy now, i'll prefer an 8800GTS 320MB.

I dont wana wait too long, since my exams are coming and i wana game hard :)
But you think it would be reasonable to wait till mid may?
But im gonna go for that X2 this next 2 weeks, a good deal anyways
Only reason im upgrading cpu-z is that so i dont bottleneck my new graphics card.

Well you already got my opinion on it ;) He brings up a good point though. AMD should *key word should* be releasing their midrange cards soon too. But i know you like me, Nvidia FTW lols.

GPUs manufacturers usually release their highend cards followed by their midrange a few months down the road so unless you want to shell out $500-600CAD for a HD2900XT, you'll be waiting much longer as I think ATi are only releasing their highend R600 cards come May.
You could also think of it this way; don't wait too long or you'll be waiting forever.something good to to come out.

8800GTS is about 9" long so its gonna be a tight fit but good enough.

So all that talk about ATI releasing everything at the same time, for a biggest card launch in the history, was just a dirty rumor. I haven't read anywhere, or at least can't remember reading it, they would only go high end first an later follow with the rest. I'm not stating anything just checking.

I am not saying they are or aren't but that is just how the video card game goes; high end cards first, then mid range and low end a few months down the road but with the oh so many delays of the R600 maybe ATi is gonna release their entire line on in one shot; who knows.

It's hard to put a date on DAAMIT's relase of anything at this time but it I think I say May somewhere when the HD (formerly the Xseries) will be hitting the streets. INQ* spoke of a HD2600 but I doubt it's the so called 8800 killer. You also have to consider there are a lot of fresh NV products just hitting shelves. I'd give them 2-3 more weeks before prices hit the fan.
* http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?page=9 Read with one eye looking for real facts, these boys (INQ) tend to make mistakes and bungle facts sometimes.

All the AMD (ATI) cards should be released in the next day or 2, most if not all the big tech web sites and so on are now either on the way to Tunis or already there for the big release event. So I would expect a big major anouncement either Monday or Tuesday. Also if you happen to know someone that works in a major computer retail outlet, see if you can get them to spill the beans on what they are going to be putting on the store shelves this coming Tuesday, that's the standard stockage day of the week for new products here in the US. From what I've been hearing, all the new products are supposed to be hard launches with stock on hand for resale.

Wow this is major major good news with the launch of the amd/ati cards which should cause a price drop in video cards, the price drop of the intel chips and the launch of the 650i ultra mobo....how good can it get...Im drooling...
Plus I think I may have finally found my widescreen lcd - the hp 2207 - gorgeous display - saw it at best buy for $379. I think I can get it for $289 at circuit city!

Yep, I found a 2900 out there also but which 2900 is going to be the quote (XT, FX, GTO ) or what ever they are going to call the BIG card. The 2600 is definitely the midrange with cards. All balls to the walls cards have the external power to drive enough current into power hungry circuits.

i might just get a 360 and hook it up to my main TV, the only reason i wouldnt do that is cuz there would be no internet, but i saw this wireless adapter for the 360 for $120 at bestbuy!!!
and the wireless has a pass on it, so i dont no how that would work

The ATI HD 2600 should be par with the 8600GTS, at least concerning DX9 performance. They get very similar scores with the SM3.0 test in 3dmark06.

Oh its not whether I buy ati/amd or not...competition has a tendency to cause prices to go down on all products so I just wanted to know how long I needed to wait for a potential price drop.
And we really dont know how well the final ati/amd products are really going to be...the nvidia 8500/8600 series looks to be crap too! The bus and memory is way too small for the newer games to run smoothly.

Last I read the XT sometimes beats the "GTS" and the XTX wasn't up the the task of the putting up a halfway good fight against the GTX.
Need to see what happens after they are released.

Hows about we wait until the smoke clears on May 14th and then we can say whether the R600 sucks or is a success.
EDIT: just read that the date has been pushed to May 2nd for the HD2900XT's release but other sources say its still the 14th???

Man, the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra reviews are starting to pop-up today, ATi is falling farther behind. But at $829 each, I really don't think they'll be selling bunch of these cards even if they could produce them.
This is a question we have been asking ourselves, what is the need for the GeForce 8800 Ultra if the GeForce 8800 GTX already provides the performance you need in current games? The simple and easy answer is that they are aiming to trump the upcoming R600 launch. The Ultra is simply a marketing tool of NVIDIA.
What really taints this entire launch is the price of the GeForce 8800 Ultra, $829. What was NVIDIA thinking with an MSRP like this? Granted, when cards show up into stores and online retailers the prices may be different as manufacturers and retailers set those accordingly. However, from what we hear there may be limited availability of the GeForce 8800 Ultra according to NVIDIA because of “high demand” of “the most powerful graphics solutions available.” That could certainly keep the price inflated. We hope this doesn’t turn out to be another video card that is hard to find and when you do find one is way overpriced. Availability is quoted to be before May 15th.
Considering R600 is not looking to be an “8800-killer,” it would seem that NVIDIA has miscalculated the 8800 Ultra product and only ended up marketing against themselves and looking somewhat foolish and arrogant with this overpriced product that seems to be little more than a “PR part.” Sorry NVIDIA, your Ultra is just not worth the money.

Cheaper to just buy Foxconn's 8800GTX, it comes pre-overclocked higher than the Ultra card but only costs under $550. Better performing card for $280 less anyone?
